  • weeks to points

I recently deposited my 2010 summer Williamsburg lockoff weeks (2bdrm/1bdrm) into RCI. I am only pulling about 110,000 units with them. We were trying to get into HGVC @ Seaworld the last week of April 2010 (not near Easter) in a 3 bdrm - big family (these have occ. for 10). Only pulling 1 & 2 bdrms - others have checked and there is availability but me week is not strong enough. We could settle on these if we absolutely have to.
But then I was looking at the 3yr RCI point lease program, and wondering if this would be a better option. Then I could dump my weeks into points and get about 70,000 additional points to get what we want.
I know you can't see out father than 10 months (which would be 2 months away) so I'd have to make a decision soon.
Should I just wait 2 more months and see if the availability changes or they deposit more weeks? Or do you think I will never be able to pull a 3bdrm there?
    Can anyone offer any advice?

The 10-month window is for points reservations at points resorts.

For points reservations at weeks resorts, you can book 2 years in advance. Points can see all inventory at weeks-only resorts.

The "hole" in points is for resorts that have both weeks and points (such as Sheraton Vistana). In that case, you can't see any of the weeks inventory using your points; you can only see the points inventory. So, there may be weeks out there available, but you can't see them.

To cover this, I will deposit weeks into the weeks side of my account (a points account has a weeks account as a hidden appendage; in my case, RCI took my existing weeks account and paired it with my points account), and do searches there. Those can see the weeks at mixed weeks/points resorts (subject to trading power restrictions). When I get near the 90-day window, I will then call RCI and put that week into points for deposit.

There won't be any more resort deposits for that time period. HGVC Seaworld did a bulk spacebank on march 10th. You may have been able to get a 3BDRM if you were trying at that time, you are not going to get one now it would take a real tiger.

You might want to call RCI and plead your case this is what I see right now in weeks:
      3 BR 8 (8) Full Sunday, April 25, 2010 Sunday, May 02, 2010

You could try going the points scenario if you can get an account set up and active in 6 weeks. It's a little pricey for a 3BR

      3 Bedrooms 8/8 Full 02/01/2010 02/08/2010 96,500

There are other very nice resorts if you aren't glued to HGVC SeaWorld.

Its going to take 6 to 8 weeks to enrol into rci points, currently rci points 10 month window is booking for late Feb. There will be availability for HGV@seaworld 3br units in Easter 2010 when that window opens, but I think you are cutting it a bit too close. If there is any delays in paperwork you may be too late.

I couldn't deposit my week until March 17th and then I had to wait for it to show up (new member) about 12 days later.
          Apr 25th - May 2nd - That's the exact week I need!!
The reason we picked HGVC Seaworld is that even though it says on RCI that it's only 8 occupancy on the HGVC website and in the RCI room description when looking at availability it says 10 - we have 6 kids and 4 adults going. I haven't found any others as large. The kids all wanted to stay together but sometimes have parent separation issues too.
We're also only doing Seaworld and Universal this trip - not Disney this time.

I think I'll call RCI and see what they can do for me first. At this point I would even give up BOTH my units (1 & 2 bdrm) for the 3bdrm! Would I have gotten it if I had deposited my week as the whole 3bdrm instead?

Thanks for the advice. I was worried about not getting it in time too.
However, Easter 2010 is actually the 1st Sunday in April that year and our school vacation is the last week of April (Apr 24 - May 2) so that might work in our favor.
(Another reason I wanted to get points was to be able to get into Disney when we go back again.)

Wyndhams Bonnet Creek sleeps 10 in a 3BR and they haven't deposited that time frame yet. OLCC East, North, West and River Island all have 3BR sleeps 12.

I suggest you broaden your search to include them.

No I don't think a 3BR would have netted you a 3BR it is all trade power independent of size and unfortunately RCI won't do a 2 weeks for 1 trade.

I don't know the units at HGVC Seaworld. If the 3BR is actually a 2BR lock-off you could technically get a 2BR & a 1BR and call the resort the week prior to check-in asking for them to be put together. Might be worth calling the resort to ask.

I don't know that I've ever seen WBC deposit a 3BR. They might have, and I just wasn't paying attention. But, I'd be surprised.

There have been a few 3 BR deposits, but not many. Bonnet Creek actually has 4 BR units as well, but you need to be a Wyndham owner to get one by booking directly with Wyndham. I have never seen a 4 BR in RCI, but I have stayed in the 4BR Presidentual unit at BC. They are awesome, 4 BR, 4 Bath, with 2 King Master Brs with ensuite baths, and 2 BR each with 2 Double bed and a bathroom across the hall. This unit even has it own laundry ROOM, yes room. Kitchen/Dining room seating and dishes for 12 easy. Extremely large balcony with table and chairs and a few lounge chairs and still room left over. My only complain is that they actually need a 2nd dishwasher, as it takes multiple loads if you have that many there.

We spent Christmas there one year and make a full Turkey Dinner for 17, as friends came over for dinner and we had 13 staying at the unit.
