  • Something isn't right.

So I'm plowing thru RCI for things that interest me this morning and I'm not seeing a heck of a lot (which happens at times) when I suddenly notice something VERY ODD.

I am searching with a tiger with a search window of Jun 2008 to Jun 2011 and I'm looking at Southern California Coastal for that entire time frame. THERE IS NOT ONE SINGLE SOLITARY UNIT AT ANY RESORT UNTIL SEPT 2009

Simple: If you want coastal SC buy coastal SC. Owners of prime weeks either use or rent those units, they convert to RCI points. Why should they. Give a prime week for the choice of dogs, those dog owners convert to be able to get prime weeks on the cheap. It doesn't work.

It is not that simple. I only wish it were. There are plenty of opportunities for exchange into SCal Coastal for summer 2010.

I just find it very strange that there isn't a single solitary studio/2 unit at a resort most of us would turn our noses up at for a period of 4 months.

Probably just RCI saying, "If you wanna see pathetic, we'll show you pathetic."

My window's just a month off yours and I think the big numbers are suspicious . . . 3730 for all of CA and 1159 for SOCAL. Those seem low for 24 months.

For my searches this week, the big number at the beginning has dropped drastically, but the little numbers for when & where I want are exactly the same.

I've looked around a bit and haven't found anything on the back of a shelf, say behind the green beans.

Well this is definately bottom of the barrel. FWIW the one week I use pretty consistantly went from 167k+ to 164k+ which is also NOT NORMAL for a Sunday. Historically my numbers are better than normal on that day of the week.

Heck I looked behind all the feminine products and there is nothing in the shelves.

I'm seeing some absurd extra vacation rentals but I don't think that is the answer to what I'm experiencing today.

It's not for ME it's for the membership.

There are very, very few direct oceanfront SCal properties. No this is anything walk to the beach and better. Nothing means just that.

I don't think it's that odd. I haven't seen stuff for about a month, even after the Sat night maintenance when you traditionally see more stuff. I'm basing my rationale on two things:

                        1. People typically plan travel 2 -3 months out and that means last month and this month for summer plans. So people are taking pretty much anything, even that studio at places that would've gotten a no 6 months ago.

                        2. This is the first summer of the new RCI website which has made it easier for the average RCI member to search where they want to go. It's less of a hassle and they can see it and be happy with that studio that they didn't even see previously.

I expect this to be the norm for the next couple months before we get back into seeing more stuff.

I guess if it's a walk to the ocean many locals might be interested in the resort to use for eccess to the beach. If very few are directly on the ocean then this is the next best and in high demand. Owners either use, rent or let a friend occupy. A similar situation exists on Cape Cod and Newport.
I have a prime 2 Br on the Cape(all rooms face the beach) which trades with II. Just out of curiosity I looked to see what I could trade into in the summer on the Cape or Newport. Zilch, nada, nothing. Good thing II has request first so I kept my unit.

I think something is up. Here's FLSGC:

                            May 2009 [1]
                            June 2009 [4]
                            July 2009 [9]

No way in hell that's right, with all the resorts that takes in.

This is the type of stuff I'm talking about in my suspicious numbers thread, stuff that investigators could have said, "What's up with this?"

I'm with Jim and the conspiracy theory today guys.

                              This is beyond supply/demand factors.

Perhaps I picked a bad area to use as my example. We all know SCal summer coastal is tough this close in to begin with (as is Cape Cod and Newport), but I had been feeling something wrong way before I got to the left coast in my searches this morning. The "Huh, something isn't right." started in the Caribbean/ Florida searches and just got worse as I worked up the coast and across the USofA.

At any rate, we have the numbers for today and can go back to them for reference during the week to see if the situation improves any.

FWIW I still don't use that lefthand side breakdown column very much but I think I may start giving it a glance.
