  • Conversation About RCI

Me and one of the OF Alpha Males during golf last week:

"I know you like to go to Gulf Shores in January . . . I look every now and then and there are always three resorts available."

"So what? If I book the next year while I'm still there, it's only $900 to rent. Through RCI by the time you pay the membership fee and exchange fee, that's another $500, and they never have anything."

Here's the fault in that logic:

    1. They do have stuff available . . . you just have to know how to look.

    2. When you add his $570 MF for the week he does not use to the $900 rent, he's paying $1470 for what he could get through RCI for $814 ($570+$80+$164). (Although I will grant that paying RCI a full membership fee for just one week is pushing it.)

But not something worth me pursuing. He's made up his mind and does not want any facts to interefere with his own. Lots of folks like that around here.

Another thread reminded me that if you use the RCI Elite Rewards Visa Card, you can reduce your RCI cost further. We get at about two exchange fees per year.

    You can't do that renting.
