    • Lawren, with all of your searchs, I hope you will write a letter of objection in the class action and set out what you have observed.

Those involved in the suit did not care about my thousands of daily searches which I recorded and which documented the dwindling exchange numbers during the ramp-up of rentals.

I got the impression from my few contacts with them that they did not really want details, just a big general statement that it is a breach for an exchange company to also be a rental copany . . . which I have agreed with from the start.

But, then, other timeshare companies that offer exchanges also offer rentals.

From a personal standpoint, each of us has to make a decision as to whether aligning ourselves against someone who has 100% control of our (vacation) destiny is prudent, especially when the outcome is so questionable and likely meaningless.

I have learned in real life that most people find it easier to align with the bully, and don't concern themselves over what is right or wrong.

        • I suspect that the objectors, led by Susan and Jennie, would be very interested in your numbers. The official class action attorneys proved to be sharks out just to line their own pockets with no concern for their clients whatsoever.

          • That's the first time I heard that, both parts.

Although it doesn't translate well, here are my numbers, simplified, although I have more detailed ones in writing. They've been sitting right here in front of old POC since . . . let me look . . . March 27, 2002.

            • Sorry, I am not computer literate enough to get it to look right.

A short explanation is that for Jan, 2004, in my daily searches I saw a peak of 14 resorts available in any one search.

For Jan, 2005, the peak was 13.

              Jan, 2006, 9.

              Jan, 2007, 9.

              Jan, 2008, 13.

              Jan, 2009, 8.

              Jan, 2010, was 9.

As we have been discussing, Jan 2011 is zero, or maybe 1 every now and then.

When you graph it and look at the declining peak monthly availability over the years, it is overwhelming.

The numbers don't tell the whole story, which now is that the top 20 or so SW FL resorts:

Plantation House at South Seas Resort
South Seas Club @ South Seas
              Tortuga Beach Club
              Hyatt Coconut Plantation
Plantation Bay Villas at South Seas Resort
Harbourview Villas at South Seas Resort
              Sanibel Beach Club II
              Charter Club of Marco
              Vanderbilt Beach and Harbour Club
              Sanibel Cottages
              Cottages at South Seas Plantation
              Eagles Nest
              Sanibel Beach Club I
Plantation Beach Club @ South Seas
Casa Ybel Beach and Racquet Club
              Seawatch on the Beach
              Lighthouse Resort and Club
              Hurricane House
              Club Regency
              Shell Island Beach Club
              Surf Club
Lovers Key Beach Club & Resort

              (Yeah, not all are RCI)

have all but disappeared altogether, popping up only in the 14-day window.

Now only the bottom dwellers appear regularly, and the regularly is not very regular.

My inquiry into where they have all gone, and why they only pop up at the last minute, has been met with antagonism and BS. (IMHO)

              • So, if I had my way, I would ask the judge to ask RCI to make an accounting for all of the deposits from those resorts, and to explain what has happened to them over the years.

And ask RCI to explain why there are as many EVs (for more money) available as there are exchanges, and to account for where the EVs came from.

It seems elementary that a company with the questionable character of RCI, with a history of accounting irregularities (Cendant), would not be above selling something for $800 to someone other than the folks they promised to sell it to for $164 (or whatever the exchange rate du jour), and a reasonable request for a judge to make.

                  • The following pertains both to the disappearance of around 30000 exchanges during the website disenhancement & the settlement.

I received the following reply from counsel for the plaintiff to my latest objection, which included the disappearance of that inventory, RCI's insincere reply to my inquiry about it, and the no-refund cancellation policy that just went into affect, all of which I hold to be evidence that RCI is flaunting their ability to do whatever they want to their customers, very untimely in light of the settlement situation.

RCI has addressed the "disappearance" with the court and claims to be correcting what they describe as a computer glitch.

We thank you for the input and will continue to follow up.

                    • I am still dubious that 30000 exchanges just disappeared from the Spacebank, especially given what it is that is missing . . . the top resorts in the most desirable times . . . and amazed that after 6 months the techies have not been able to find them.

Is it believable that there was no backup, so gone is gone?

If that is true, some techies are probably looking for work.

At exchange fees that would be $5 million, and at rental rates it would be $30,000,000.

I find it amazing that they are telling the Court the same thing, that the inventory disappeared and they are trying to find it, but haven't gotten it done in 6 months.

In the meantime, we have weeks sitting in the Spacebank that can't be used and invoices for $2500 in maintenance fees.

More like much-ballyhooed, highly-recomended, the solution to all that ails.

Anyone get any great exchanges to SW FL lately using any search method? Any of the Top 20 SW FL resorts?

Edited: but, after actually trying it myself for peak-summer 2010 Atlantic coastal, I'm more likely to use ongoing searches as one way to improve my own exchange opportunities than I was before my little experiment.
