  • I am still surprised that there is not any more outrage about this than appears, when there is so much outrage about things a lot less visible.

This was done in front of all of us. We all saw it and confirmed it.

Seems like flaunting. Even in games here are penalties for taunting.

    • Although I admit to not spending much time studying the proposed classaction settlement, because it legitimizes what the plaintiffs sought to eliminate, the settlement, as I understand it, is consistent with the disappearance of the 20-30K deposits during the website enhancement.

If it is the intention that Spacebank deposits only be made available for exchange for 30 days after the date of deposit, that would explain why we are still seeing fairly reasonable numbers for 24 months out.

If RCI decided to implement that policy prematurely, say because it was convenient to do so during the website work, that would explain why there were suddenly significantly fewer deposits after the website changes than there was before.

It would explain why there are suddenly fewer exchanges during timeframes when there have always been plentiful numbers, namely hurricane season.

That would explain why RCI would tell me that their research indicates that all available deposits are being seen, because deposits made before the last 30 days have gone elsewhere. If they have been moved elsewhere, in line with the settlement agreement, they no are available for exchanges.

It would explain why the Top 20 resorts in SW FL are no longer available. Those are the most desirable, so those are the ones most likely to be taken as exchanges in the first 30 days after deposit, regardless of search method, and the most desirable ones to be used by RCI for other purposes after the first 30 days.

The disappearance could well be a harbinger of what will be if the settlement agreement is approved, that after the two year period, if that is what it is, RCI has demonstrated exactly what they intend to do, take good deposits at the time of deposit, and use them elsewhere.

      • At the same time SW FL is virtually void, the rest of Florida seems to go begging. Here's the numbers on Last Call:

        85 Resorts (545 available units)

That's more than twice as many Florida Last Calls (for the next month) as there are total exchanges available in SGC for the next 24 months!!!

Even if things were not suspicious, about the best one could say is that it is a system way out of balance . . . way too much stuff some times and locations and way too little in others.

It seems the whole thing has gotten away from them . . . or is that just my imagination?

They have got to be kidding....

Meanwhile back at the ranch the strongest trader I have access to is down another 7k units. 142921 available units

Seems everytime Rent Condos Instead does an upgrade that we get a downgrade. Of course it is now MF season so who knows what will happen in January.

I'm guessing the answer to that will be that a lot of resort associations will be trying to decide what to do about their increased delinquencies.

                • Here's another one of those nice HGVCs that no longer seem to be available in a normal timefame, only in the 14 Day (M/L) Window, suggestive of a cancellation or late deposit, too late to be used elsewhere.

FWIW, I have initiated an inquiry by HGVC as to why their SWFL stuff is no longer appearing online, except at the last minute. I got a nice reply, but I doubt that I will get anything further. In the past when I have asked RCI-related stuff of my own resort, they naively ask RI what's up and that puts an end to it.

I was told by an HGVC SW FL resort manager that their owners are still deopsiting with RCI and they are still getting guests in from RCI.

                  • Coincidentally, and timely, some of you may recall that some time ago I had made an exchange into Seawatch On The Beach, and then had to cancel it because of work schedule.

That exchange was for 12/12/09, and it was made on 5/15/08. That, exactly, is the type of deposit that disappeared during the website enhancement, a better SW FL resort at a normal timeframe, in that case at 19 months out.

In my years of daily searching and recording, 19 months out was in the timeframe of peak availability in SW FL.

                    • Based on the dates that stuff is appearing at the last minute, it looks like in four weeks I will be able to see if I might be able to get us something in SW FL for the second week in January, to go with what I have for the first week.

Of course, in light of the magical vanishing act, settlefors now are welcome.

For those who are also looking, I could use a 1/8 or 1/9 check-in date since our flight back is 1/15. I don't recall ever seeing any any Friday check-ins in SW FL, so 1/8 there may be out.

                      • This just struck home with DW. She asked me to check for her annual Girls' Week Out week, which we have exchanged for for years.

                        Here it is:

                        2 BR 8 (6) Full 25-Jul-2010 01-Aug-2010 USD 1,187.99

Now that it is personal, she said, "If that's the case, why do we even have the damn things. Just give em away or stop paying the maintenance fees."

How does that jive with what RCI has told me:

"Date: 8/25/09 3:12:21 PM Central Daylight Time

. . . For space to be deposited and be hidden from the subscriber would make no sense at all as that is how we generate our income. "

What evidence is there that the week we have always exchanged for, that now is for rent for 1,187.99 plus tax, is not a deposit, since exactly the same thing has been available at about the same time out for years?

What is even more frustrating is that there is no attempt being made to hide this bad behavior any more. It is out in the open and being rubbed in our faces.

                        • Our ownership of timeshares, and the $2000/year-plus expense that goes with it, is to get 2 weeks in SW FL in January and one week in July at Fairham Nashville.

The two weeks in SW FL are no longer being offered at any resort and the week in Nashville now costs $1200.

I have been very patient over the last 20 years, but if that is not enough to piss us off, I don't know what would be.

Just came back to say that I have been searching for that for awhile, as an exchange, and have not been seeing it, so have been concerned. I only found it because DW asked me to search for a Last Call for Girls' Thanksgiving Weekend Out for next week.

So, when I searched using all availabilities I found what we have always gotten as an exchange, only for next year it is a rental.

I may not be entitled, but after 20 years and all the $$$ we have spent with them, I feel like we should have the right to know if it is or is not a deposit from another owner.

                            • I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news, but you appear to have a trade power issue, rather than a stolen-from-the-exchange-pool-for-rentals issue. That unit is available for exchange. Just not to your deposit. Here's what I see at #3688 for July.

                              • In light of this, your wife might be right. It might be time to dump the weeks you own, presuming you still want to use them primarily for exchange, as they no longer appear to see what you need to see. I'll go out on a limb and suggest that FL/SGC in winter is a harder pull than Nashville in July, so you're not likely to see much success for any of your needs.

To calibrate, you need a week that sees more than 7500 total units in July '10 to see that 2BR 8/6 Nashville unit on 7/25 (the number might be lower; hard to tell). 7300 and change is not getting it done for the 2BR 8/6 units, but 7300 and change does see the 2BR 8/4 units. The next one I can look with is just shy of 4700 total July units. It sees only two 1BR deposits for all of July for Nashville.
