Edited: but, after actually trying it myself for peak-summer 2010 Atlantic coastal, I'm more likely to use ongoing searches as one way to improve my own exchange opportunities than I was before my little experiment.
I did see that Brian and I know for fact the on-going matches can and do happen. Some wonderful things show up the closer in you get as well. Obviously we aren't seeing everything on line.

That being said, I'm not head over heels in love with the matches you got.

I know what's missing and there is no explanation that we've received that supports anything other than looting.

    • True, many of those were no great shakes. But, there were a couple nice ones in there, and the search didn't even run for a full week before I stopped it.

Frankly, I don't care why the spot-searches don't turn up like they used to, though there are probably several factors at play. The only question for me is: can RCI still deliver the goods, and if so, how?

The answer for me is "maybe", and "ongoing search will be one tool I use." Eventually, the answer might be "no" and "not applicable." But, it's not there yet. For others it might be. Times change. Change with them, or yearn for the old days. Your choice.

I have always run an on-going search and on-line check it when looking for something. I can also say that 80% of the time I find what I want searching manually. Your results support what happened with a friend of mine who played chicken with RCI up to just about check-in and she was rewarded for her nerves of steel.

The times may have indeed changed where on-line will no longer serve my needs as well as it has in the past and I'll just have to get over it.

        • I've had the same experience---I grabbed a 2BR for next summer at Disney online when I had a simultaneous search that should have matched it but didn't. I wouldn't rely *only* on ongoing search. But, if there is something I want, you can bet I'll use both tools, because I now have first-hand evidence that both work.

played chicken with RCI up to just about check-in
I don't know that I'd call 8-9 months out "just about check-in." In fact, I picked the time pretty deliberately. Folks are just getting their MF bills now, and many "regular owners" who don't know any better will use that moment to pay for and deposit the upcoming year's use. If I repeated that experiment in, say, late February (and I might), I'll bet the hits come a lot less frequently.

          • Has anyone else noticed that Hawaii deposits are down about 100 from the 550-575 range before this past weekend to 465 tonight...

            • The use of the term spot-searches is inappropriate.

What is being discussed here is the confirmed disappearance of a substantial amount of inventory from the Spacebank, by our combined observations somewhere around 30,000.

That fact appears to have been further confirmed by RCI, in court, during the class-action case.

We have noticed it while doing spot-searches online. You would not be able to know stuff was missing if you did not do spot searches online, and on a regular basis over an extended period of time.

The missing stuff is what this thread is about.

How you go about getting exchanges is another discussion, one we've pretty much run into the ground. Part of that very old and tiresome discussion is a point I have always tried to make . . . that searching online yourself is as much about the knowledge you gain doing it as it is about the exchanges you get.

Well, if I did spot searches for Hawaii, I would have noticed.

                      Snide reply noted.

Yeah, it's been awhile since my OP, and it has wandered, so here it is again, after we had had considerable discussion about the missing stuff in other threads:

Now that it's settled down, for those whose search window is the next 24 months, how many total exchanges are you seeing.

                      Here's ours:

                      [148,114]
                      [148,114]
                      [146,739]
                      [139,903]

The purpose of this thread, therefore, was to attempt to quantify the amount of stuff that went AWOL during the disenhancement.

But, alas, you are not alone in the changing of the subject/ruler on the knuckles category. The latest reply (just received) from RCI to my inquiry concerning the missing stuff changed the subject to search method (another popular ploy here), blaming me for not getting what disappeared during the disenhancement because I have used the Disappeared Inventory Search Method yet.

It totally ignored my question about the missing inventory.

I guess the only person they will admit to is wearing a black robe.

                      • Au contraire, mon frere. I'm not blaming your search methods for anything. Merely sharing my own experiences, so that we may all learn.

                        Sometimes, it's not about you.

I was not referring to you personally, as a couple of others over the years have insisted that ongoing searches will cure what ails.

& when did it start being not about me?

But I love it when you talk that way . . . I did not know we were related.

Down to 432. How far will it go? I am betting on 275...that was where it was post-apocalypse.

                            • Interestingly enough the ultra tiger was seeing 150+ this morning but damned if I could figure out where the additional 1.5k were though. No change as far as I could see.

                              • Here is the official answer concerning the 30,000 Spacebank deposits that disappeared during the enhancement and the dropoff of SGC FL from 600 to 230, m/l:

I can completely appreciate and understand your observation and your tracking on this subject and truly understand any concern. However, because of the emails I have been receiving from you, I have met with some supervisors for some direction on this subject.

They indicate that a few other members have had this same concern, therefore, thorough research was done within all the departments that determine the supply of inventory. However, we do not find any discrepancies at this time. All of the numbers and space availability is correct as of now. Therefore, we are not able to address this matter further. We realize people may have their own interpretation, which is regretful, but we can only state the fact that our records and inventory has all been updated and currently shows the correct numbers. They do not plan to research this further.

I hope this information is helpful as there is no other explanation that I can provide.
