  • RCI Rentals off RCI Exchange Site - ??

Does anyone have real experience with renting off the regular RCI exchange site? I did a recent exchange but now see that I can rent the same size unit at the same resort just a few weeks later in the summer (still a good date for us to go) for a better total price. I still have time to buy the cancellation insurance (well, until tomorow night) and get my week and it's trade power back.

What I am wonderig is how the rented week works. Can I buy cancellation insurance for it also? Or is it a rent it, pay for it, and use or lose it situation? Anyone know for sure?

    Thanks!

I don't believe you can buy insurance on an RCI rental. And they do add local sales tax....

I am finding that RCI rentals are fairly often working out better than RCI exchanges. I snagged a couple of good ones in the $200 range. Can't beat that! Why own and deposit when you can rent at prices like that?

I did notice several resorts that I was paying attention to had rental price increases of about 15% in the last day or so, but still a better deal than an exchange.

Carolinian - Where you offered the chance to buy cancellation insurance when you booked your rentals? What was said in the fine print (I know you read that stuff!) about having to cancel or change a rental?

ttt - I clicked thru the rental to the final price - which did indeed include sales tax. Still, in this case the rental total price was $5 more than the MF for the week I used for the exchange.

One year we went to the Club Regina at Westin in Puerto Vallarta the week after Thanksgiving for $ 378. We have had last calls at Pueblo Bonito Rose, Solmar, and Playa Grande all in Cabo and at no time were they over $ 250. I dont have any maintainance fees that cheap and I dont have the liability of owning another unit. We own 2 timeshare weeks and take about 4 weeks a year. The cash transactions or rentals from RCI get around the rules for the most part like the 1 in 4 and ownership blocks for the area.
Also I dont remember if we could buy cancellation insurance but depending on the time before your trip you could get some back.

I never even consider RCI cancellation insurance because it is such a bad deal in comparision with DAE's cancellation protection scheme.
