  • RCI Disney Resorts codes DV and RD

What's up with RCI? Do they look for the stupidest person they can find and have them answer the phones?

I called RCI today and asked them what is the difference between the Disney Resorts listed that have the RD code and the ones that have the DV code. They answered "There is no difference, they are the same". So I asked why separate them with different codes? They said the RD ones are extra. Extra what? I have heard the RD are rentals and the DV are points but, you can rent both.

I called Disney and asked are all the rooms at the new Bay Lake Tower the same? They said yes they are, the only difference is the size - studios, 1 and 2 bedrooms. All studios have a mini kitchen, the 1 and 2 bedrooms have a full kitchen.

So, why is RCI coming up with these different codes? The RD ones are a lot cheaper for extra vacations than the DV but, they are the same units. Very strange.

RD is exclusively rental inventory. DV is supposedly exchange inventory. Where do you see the DVs for rent?

I guess anything goes now though.

DVs have always been available for rent. RDs look like "short term specials". As far as I can tell, all DVC rental inventory at RCI is developer-controlled. Disney has separate inventory management IT systems for "regular" vs. DVC Point reservations, and you use Disney's "regular" hotel infrastructure web site/phone number to schedule airport pickups on rentals, but DVC Member Services for exchanges. Also, no rentals past the end of 2009 yet. When Disney announces room rates fo 2010 (probably early this August) you'll see 2010 rental inventory show up shortly thereafter.

If I had to guess, the RDs are breakage inventory and/or inventory being rented to cover Member exchange into cruises, guided tours, etc. DVs are out-and-out Disney owned, through ROFR, delinquincy etc.

Also, before the recent changes to their web site, I could see DV's as available for exchange for a week that I have. But after their change, I don't see any. I called them about this and they say I am wrong, they were never available. In fact the person I talked to said they have never seen any weeks from Disney as available for exchange ever. I told them if this was true, how was I able to do an exchange with another week I have (they are both red weeks, 3 bedroom at Smugglers Notch, Vermont ) for a DV 2 bedroom in November, 2009? They didn't know how.

Obviously, trade power was adjusted in the Recent Unpleasantness. That required for DVC has gone up. They are still there, in about the same numbers as Before, but fewer of us can see them.

How red is red? If these are prime weeks during summer or school break weeks I'd be absolutely SHOCKED if you could not see Disney.

            What weeks did you deposit?

Week 28 for 2008 and 2009 which is right now 7/11-7/18. I was able to get a 2 bedroom at Disney's Wilderness Lodge 11/15-11/22 for the 2008 deposit with RCI before they made their changes to the web site. Now I see nothing available. RCI says nothing is wrong as there are just no weeks available at Disney resorts. They were all reserved during the time there system went down. Bull!

I just received my RCI points membership number. I was told with points you can see more units available. Boy are they wrong! I just compared my weeks VS points (I have both) and I see 28 units available in September 2009 for Vistana 0450 in Florida for weeks but, only 9 units with points. I called RCI and they didn't know why so they connected me with there web site staff. He told me that they are completely different inventories (weeks VS points) and that's why points shows less than weeks. I want my money back for converting to points!

Why do I see so many DV's for rental but when I search with my RCI points membership I see nothing for the same weeks?

It looks like RCI is making more DVC weeks available now.
