  • Bye Bye RCI

I called to cancel my membership today. It took about 12 minutes- most on hold and they told me to call back in 5 days(they must have the programmers figuring it out) to find out what my refund will be. No questions as to why I canceled.

It would be interesting to know how many RCI members are individual subscribers vs. how many get a "free" account with some ownership or another.

Didn't you get the SA RCI deal? If so that will be interesting...

I have about 5 "free" RCI accounts for which I pay through the nose.

Yes-exclusively. Perhaps they need 5 days to figure out the best way to cheat me out of whatever they can and justify it.

I quit RCI a year or so ago then bought some Wyndham points and have the "free" account. I am quickly remembering what I disliked so much about it.

                  Why oh Why RCI

                  Good move Tony!

You all should follow in his footsteps and walk away.. no run away from RCI.

All I hear is complaints, and moaning from you RCI types.

                  What a SH#$#$#$ organization!

It is definitely a love/hate situation with RCI - if only they didn't have stuff I want

I'd like to sell my only resort that is II only and drop them. Maybe it's because II gets their deposits so late (it appears) but I always seem to be booked up with RCI weeks before I find anything interesting in II.

Then try II - don't worry, they got squat that anyone wants! It will be pure hate/hate. Plenty of converted motels and studios in the off season but beyond that there is a real lack of inventory. And stay by the phone for all those calls trying to shove some of the junk out to you for any request you might make. It's tons of fun.

Better yet buy what you want to use or buy into a system with plenty of locations and a good internal system that doesn't require II/RCI. NOW you have a love/love! The best of all.

Been with Interval since 1998 and have done 4 to 6 exchanges per year. I have yet to stay in a converted motel and, anymore, we never stay in studio units. In fact, it's been easy enough to exchange our studio unit into 1 bedroom units.

Recent exchanges include 2 bedroom Las Vegas for 2 bedroom Kauai (Waiohai), 1 bedroom Las Vegas unit for 2 bedroom HHI (Harbor Club), AC for 2 bedroom unit in Breckenridge (Grand Timber Lodge), 1 bedroom Branson for 2 bedroom S. Lake Tahoe (The Ridge), 2 bedroom Las Vegas for 2 bedroom Newport Coast California (Newport Coast Villa's) and I could name more but, why bother. You hate Interval about as much as I hate RCI.

RCI has screwed over weeks owners to the point it's not worth it anymore. Read the complaints of phantom weeks. For that matter, if you've got time, tally up the complaint threads about RCI and compare them with the complaint threads about Interval.

RCI seems to work well if you've spent the cash to join their points program. If you're a weeks owner then good luck finding anything decent with RCI. Let's see, RCI has Hilton and DVC. I can count the DVC and Hilton locations available on two hands (Vegas, Orlando, Hawaii, NY, Treasure Coast, HHI and am I missing any others). Interval has Marriott, Hyatt, Starwood, Westin, Bluegreen, DRI and a slew of other quality resorts and systems to choose from.

IMHO, RCI has the numbers but not the quality. You can keep RCI. I'll stick with interval

As an RCI points owner, I agree with what you're saying. The power of my weeks in RCI weeks has degraded. I find myself using points for most trades.

Just FYI, BG can deposit (depending on resort and week) in both II and RCI. RCI also gets some Marriott and Sheraton (but not nearly as much as II).

My feeling is that II has a higher quality ratio than RCI. On the other hand, I also agree with an earlier poster that you can sometimes get better exchanges with smaller exchange companies. We joined SFX just for that reason. We also are just about to close on Bluegreen Club gold (gee, I've been saying that for two months, come on Resort Title!).

                            In summary:

II: Still useful to me, and well above threshold
RCI Weeks: below threshold, but I get a "free" weeks account with RCI points
RCI Points: still above threshold, but not much. The capping of the amount of points that could be spent with points partners was a real downer.
SFX: Looks good so far; our first trip with them to Europe is next Summer.

                            Regards,

                            sc

Based on the stays I've had at both II and RCI resorts, I have to say that II is more likely to have a better quality resort than RCI. Once RCI gets done with the degradation of the weeks part of the membership, I expect they will "begin" screwing the points members.
