  • RCI and Japan

Does anyone remember ever being able to see exchanges into Japan timeshares in RCI? If you look in the resort directory there are 80 resorts in Japan. If you use the map view to drill down into Asia exchanges, Japan's total is zero. I have no idea if there has ever been any availability in Japan ever. I am only looking there trying to help a prospective RCI points buyer determine if they will be able to travel where they want to go. I've never ever looked for Japan exchanges before. Based on both the points and weeks web site, there is no possibility for exchange into their home country of Japan. Maybe that's the black hole that sucked up the missing inventory?

Also, if you want to exchange into other Asia resorts, many of them are available for next year for zero points.

Has anyone ever seen availability in Japan?

No I have never seen Japan available but I have to admit that I only had a bug to check it consistantly quite some time ago. I would imagine Faust could answer more knowledgably as he does cruise asia pacific in RCI much more often than I do.

I have seen a few units in Japan in the past few weeks - mainly in November and December.

Japan is on my radar. Since the trade is difficult, should I share my observation?

Japan is doable. Besides ongoing search, you can wait for the annual bulk bank? Last year, RCI bulk banked over 200 units, both in good (warmer) and bad (cooler) seasons. Most of the resorts are west and north of Tokyo, and east of Osaka and there is nothing in Hokkaido.

You will need a car and TooCool quotes like almost five hundred dollars per week. JR Pass is cheaper but it is more big city than backroad friendly.

Highway toll is like twenty dollars every hundred kilometeres, i.e. 60 miles, so factor in like 200 to 300 dollars per week on toll. Don't forget the expensive gas price there.

All hotels/resorts in big cities never show any availability. There is a resort north of Fuji Mountain, with a car, you can browse every small towns and villages in Gumma. There is another nice one in Kyoto and a spa by the sea 200 kilometeres south.

Okay, now wait for November and December.

I use to see Japan when I thought about going to Kyoto in rci but I have not look lately. Go to search type in Japan and you will see all that I found. I did not put in all of Japan that I seen, only the resorts that cot my eye and that I wanted to go to.

I will start looking for Japan and posting it.

Yes, that's my experience in the past two years. Well, I recall sitting in the snow checking those availabilities, so probably December and January.

I would love to find a place in Kyoto. My father lives in Nara which is very close.

So I should wait until Nov/Dec to look or do an ongoing search?

philsfan, thank you very much for leading me to this thread.

                Hello, folks.

Even though I'm from Japan, I don't know anything about timeshare in Japan. I go back to Japan once or twice a year, but the problem is accommodation. I have Royal Ambassador & Platinum status at Intercontinental group which gives me good deals and free upgrades. But since my stay in Japan is two to three weeks long every time, so I can't afford to stay at hotels even they give me good deal. So, I started to look for timeshare in Japan.

I am new to TS world and have just bought one TS at Las Vagas which is to exchange purpose only. So I've been looking for information about exchanging TS in Japan.

I don't think I can provide you any info about Japanese TS, but I think I could help you if you need any info about Japan.

I'm very pleased to know that there are some folks who is interested in Japanese TS here.

                Best regards,

                dabo

                  Hi tonil.

How long are you going to stay in Kyoto? And how many of you going together?

Did you know this company? VRBO
VRBO is Vacation Rentals By Owner

They provide condominium type accommodation which is uncommon for traveler in Japan and same time very hard to find.

                  How about this kind of rare traditional house for rent. Just like this;
Kyoto vacation rental by owner: 2 bedroom Japanese House rental that sleeps 4. Kyoto Traditional "Machiya" House in Gion Geisha Quarters

Some are expensive and some are affordable. I really want to try next time I visit Kyoto.
