  • I'm happy BUT no phone call for exchange - how are we to know?

I am very pleased that I actually got a match for the search . BUT no one informed me!! NO phone call, no email - I "accidentally" saw it by just checking today since I thought maybe there might be something new avail from the Sat night maint, and I actually had to go on the Ongoing Search tab - which I normally do not do to see it!

How was I to see this anyway?? just by chance??

I purposedly had asked the VC for an email since sometimes we are out of phone range (e.g. Mexico) and he very firmly told me that they TELEPHONED! and left messages only!

-- well, okay, and when we are in Mexico 3 weeks? - no phone service...oh well,,,,,

but we got it this week and we 're still in the States - but still, no phone call, no message..

    What's up? Does anyone know?

that happened to me. I happened to look late on a Friday night, but my daughter was coming with the baby, and I was tied up all weekend. It was the Waterbury Inn in Door County which has no reviews and not even a full listing in RCI book, so I wanted to do some checking. When I looked again, it was gone. In addition, I could no longer pull it. I called RCI on Monday, and was told it was held in my account for three days and that had expired. But she did manage to get the week for me, though it took some time. But no phone calls or email messages either.

I can't give you an answer but, Interval is pretty much the same. I don't recall a phone call confirming an exchange since we exchange into NOLA back in 2001 or 2002. I generally notice the exchange came through a couple of days before I recieve a confirmation E-mail. I guess it's important to make sure you only request the resorts you really want to exchange into and leave those second choice resorts off your list.

Ditto for me too. Happened to look, and I had a confirmed exchange. I am supposed to be called. I did keep it, but had actually been thinking about changing it before the exchange came through.

on the other hand, I've gotten calls to say that I had a match on something that I had released 12 hours earlier when I saw it online.

I always insist when I set up an ongoing request with II that they email me when they find a match. I make a big deal about it on the phone. I make sure they put that request in the notes. I have always gotten an email informing me of the match.

II's exchange model is that if you request it and they find it - you will be confirmed.
I don't know if you just chose an area - say "Williamsburg" - that they would call you but since I have always requested places/resorts and dates that would work for me, I have never called them back and said, I don't want that exchange.
I always get an email the next day - always.

RCI's model as I understand it is that they put things on hold for you, hence the phone calls.
I recently turned down RCI's 'offer' to call me about exchanges because if I said yes to those calls, I would also have to accept unsolicited calls about all of RCI's other products, rentals, membership extensions and affiliated company products.

              Ya just can't win!

The do E-mail me. It's just that when I have an ongoing request, I pretty much check on it daily and search online to see if something has slipped through. I often see the match has been made 2 days before I recieve the E-mail confirmation from Interval.

RCI called us to ask if they had our permission to call us when they found a match. I said yes. Three days later we received the phone call that they had a match for us. No email ... so I was glad for the phone call. I don't check RCI every day so I would have missed it.

Our last II confirmation(this month) came after a call to see if the match was OK-even though it was exactly what I had requested in an ongoing search and I would have been quite happy if they didn't tell me. I only got a call once or twice from RCI, when they tried to get me to take a smaller unit than I requested and that was around the turn of the century. Over half of my exchanges were made by on line confirmations.
