I did book a week in Myrtle Beach with check in on 4/15/2012 at Wyndham Ocean Boulevard 2 Bedroom Deluxe Ocean View Upper Level. I intended to trade it for NYC Manhattan Club but I was able to get this through RCI just this morning.

I was just coming to the timeshare forums to get y'all opinion on this promo.

I am still kind of hesitant, because I am afraid I deposit it and then end up not trading it. Thus, I end up wasting a week of points.

Is that $500 something I would use to pay transaction fees? Just wondering how that works and what else can you tell me to make me feel more comfortable depositing my week?

    THANKS
cyseitz - thank you for your post and your candidness. We would love to have your business, and to be given the chance of sending you and your family on great vacations! But, at the same time you do need to feel "comfortable" about doing this, and sometimes that takes a "Leap of Faith".

We have been in business for nearly 20 years, and have about 123,000 Members. Although not perfect, we must be doing something right to acheive this level of success.

You made an excellent point that goes through the minds of many timeshare owners... "I am still kind of hesitant, because I am afraid I deposit it and then end up not trading it. Thus, I end up wasting a week of points".

Well, the facts are no matter which exchange company you use, including RCI and I.I. and others, including SFX ... there is No Guarantee when you deposit your week, you will get the exchange you want. That is the risk with "all" exchange companies.

If you bundled all the exchange companies together, there are hundreds of thousands of people who deposited their weeks and didn't get their first choice of an exchange... but they did receive an exchange somewhere, and had a vacation, and hopefully a great time.

In actuality, bundling all exchange companies together, if you look at the audits, there is usually better than a 90% average fulfillment of an exchange to a destination. It may not have been your first choice, but a vacation was offered and booked.

Sometimes we are creatures of habit and don't look beyond our comfort zone, and other times we take a leap of faith. If it works for you, then stay with it.

    Hope this helps...

    Thanks,

I think you are a little confused. Once you deposit your week with SFX, SFX then owes you a week. Your obligation and connection to the deposited week is complete. It does not matter weather SFX gives that week to someone for an exchange or not. Even if for some reason no one exchanges into it, and no one rents it on the sell-off list, SFX still owes you a week.

When we talk about deposits expiring, we are referring to that week that SFX now owes you. And while the value and name of that owed credit resemble the deposited week used to get it, the fate of your deposited week once deposited bears no influence on the use of the credit SFX owes to you.

        Mark,
I have already used my 2012 4800 HGVC points. I still have 4800 2011 points. If I rescued those points into next year would SFX take those points.
        Thanks,
        Chad

As Port says, once you deposit your week with any exchange company, it is no longer yours to use - they will give it to someone else as an exchange

BUT you can exchange your April 2012 week deposit from April 2011 thru April 2014. You have a three year window to vacation....do you understand what we are saying?

Yes, I understand. I am leaning towards depositing it. I have all of our vacations booked through next summer. An amazing feat in my busy family. I love that I have until April of 2014 to use it. Thank you for clarifying that for me. You guys/gals are always so patient and helpful to me..Thanks so much!

You don't actually give SFX your points, you use your points to book a week and give the week to SFX. And yes, if you rescue your 2011 points to 2012 and book a 2012 week that qualifies for the promotion they will certainly take it. Where/How/When the points that booked the week come from they do not care, they only care about the week.

Yes, I understood that part about me booking the week with my points. I do have another question. Let's say I did deposit a week and I booked a week this year. If the promo comes up again do I only get to refresh my deposit if I did not book a week agains that week? If someone booked what I deposited is in not a week that I can bring back? Can someone clarify that for me? Do I get to bring it back to life not matter what came about? Thanks!

                  1. Assuming that you deposit a week that SFX accepts into their system they now owe you one week from there inventory that is no longer tied to your initial deposit.

+ 1 Deposited Week good for 2 years from the start of the week (ie if week starts on 11/1/2011 the deposit SFX owes you would be good until 11/1/2013.

                  2. No matter what happens to your deposited week, this is no way affects the deposit SFX now owes you.

                  3. If for some reason you do not use the deposit SFX owes to you by expiration, assuming our dates above that would be 11/1/2013, it becomes an expired deposit in your account, but does not go away.

                  4. SFX runs promotions all the time and I do not believe I have ever seen one that did not at minimum includes at least a 1 year reinstatement of an expired week. I have revived two expired weeks using future deposit promotions. When weeks are brought back like this they maintain their initial trading power and are just as shiny and new as the day you first received it.

So, in closing to your question, I think it works out like this. If you do not use the week that SFX owes you within 2 years of the start date of that week, it would expire, but, all you would need to do at this point is deposit an additional week under one of the SFX promotions and not only would SFX owe you a week for the new deposit, but they would then reinstate the week they owed you for the expired deposit leaving you with two (2) deposited weeks.

Also, if you are still owed a week by SFX on your account and it is not expired, and you deposit another week, most all promotions also include extending all unexpired deposits typically at least one additional year.

Between all the various ways you can keeps weeks alive with SFX, it is very hard to imagine that you would not be able to eventually find some use for the week. If you keep depositing, your weeks would never really expire, and if they did, you can get the reinstated. I can obviously not speak for details on future promotions, but for at least the last 6 years they have been very consistent with having extensions of deposited weeks and reinstatement of an expired week be a part of their deposit promotions and I see no reason that is going to change anytime soon.

                  Hope that helps.

So, when you reinstate, can you only reinstate one week? Let's say you have two weeks that you deposited and never booked anything can you reinstate both weeks? Just wondering. Thanks!

Every promo I have seen includes reinstatement of one week, but nothing would prevent you from reinstating a second week under another promo later. I have had two reinstated over the last two quarters under those promos.

                        Hi Mark,

I deposited my 2012 week to SFX several months ago. I got the $500 card for my 2011 deposit before that. Do I now get another one for the 2012 week.

Ok everyone, when was the last time you saw any other exchange company go back and retroactively give extra benefits to someone whom they had already gotten a week from?

I sure have never seen RCI do that...

How long after the deposit is accepted should the "goodies" show up on the account?

                              (just asking)

                              My deposit went through today.

                                hurnik,

Personally, I have seen it take up to a week to reflect on the website, but the one time I needed to use some of my unrecorded benefits quickly, I simply called the SFX office and they processed my request for me without any issues, despite it not showing up on the web account yet.

Might be the best avenue if you want/need to get the ball rolling on something quickly.
