  • The fog is moving the wrong way!

    Hi Mark,
I am staying in San Francisco for a few days, and last night I showed my brother the lovely animated Golden Gate Bridge on your website. We both realized at the same time that the fog is moving in the wrong direction - it is blowing out to sea rather than coming in off the ocean.

I figured since your website is still under development that they could be able to fix it.

All they'd have to do is flip the picture and the fog would be moving in the right direction. How do the cars look in the picture, or can't you see them?

Wow, that is a nice animation! And, yes the fog is moving towards the open sea. The image is a view of the city from the Marin Headlands.

I think if you exchange into SF a few more times you'll learn that the fog goes wherever, however, and whenever it wants. Sometimes it goes into the bay; sometimes out to sea. Sometimes it's only in the East Bay; sometimes only in Pacifica.

I suggest sitting in the Buena Vista cafe at Hyde St Park, have enough Irish coffees to see the whole picture. (Those are Irish coffees in their mugs!)

If there is an off shore wind it will blow the fog out to the ocean. But that very seldom ever happens.

I would say most people in SF are just in the fog and seem to like it.

I left my heart in San Francisco. This is almost like a city in Europe.

Hi Eal - although the fog usually rolls from the ocean to the Bay, on rare occassions it can roll the opposite way. It's good to be different ...
