  • Too late for Kauai this October?

I want to try to go to Kauai for my birthday this October and am worndering if it is too late have a chance at an exchange via SFX. (The check-in dates would be October 13, 14 or 15th and I would only need a 1-bedroom unit.) Do you think I have a pretty good chance, or should I start looking at other options?

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Tonya - There may be possibilities and certainly is worth placing a request. As always, the more flexible you are, the greater the possibilities. You may want to submit a request for Kauai as your first choice, and maybe one of the other islands as a second choice.

With regards to the Lawai Beach Resort mentioned... you may prefer to be in a higher rated resort either Gold Crown or 5 star.

        Oops! Sorry.......

Sorry, I didn't realize this was in the ask SFX forum when I answered.
        My apologies.

          Tonya,

Oct and Nov are the easiest months to travel via TS. Everone is back in school from a long summer of traveling and no school holidays. There are the same number of resorts, So same supply and lower demand equals much greater change of your getting your vacation.

Bill - although October and November has a lower demand than periods when kids are out from school, the demand is still high from Members who's kids are grown and out of the nest. I am not saying there is no availability, however this late into the year, the space would not be as easy to get had it been requested a few months ago for Oct. & Nov.

Higher quality resorts in Hawaii still have a year round demand, and usually do not sit with empty units. Even in the lesser demanded periods, the demand is still high.

FWIW, me and mine were well-pleased with the LBR, even in the DCB, and even compared to the Gold Crown we were in the following week.

We just talked about it again this weekend, that trip we made 7 years ago, and we agree we would not mind being at the LBR. The next generation of fam wants Uncle Jim to put together another Hawaii trip. Good ole Uncle Jim.

Although I realize it is an archaic program with little current popularity among the new breed of timesharers, RCI Weeks has availability at LBR and a couple of other nice Kauai resorts. October has always been an easy month through RCI Weeks.

But then you would have never met Georgiou and learned about how you can rent your week for $15,000.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

                “You shouldn't wear that body.”

                  Thanks All!

I want to thank everyone who responded.

Mark -- I placed my request via SFX last week, so I will keep my fingers crossed that something comes through. I have a bonus week that will expire in December and hope to use it. (I actually had used it to reserve spring break at Kona Coast, but had to cancel when my Dad got sick.)

To everyone else -- thanks for the advice and reassurance. I will also keep my eyes open to other options. I took a leap and booked some reasonable airfare (airfare for two people from SFO for $591 total!), so now I just need to lock up the lodging.

                  Thanks all!

Georgio did not come up in our talk this past weekend, but I bet that's exactly why everyone wants to go back! It couldn't be that oceanfront, oceanview, end unit with the wrap-around lanai that Georgio said you had to be an owner to get!
