    Mark,

We put in a request in April for Park City area Christmas week. (request #69179) At first we were looking for a 2BR. Recently our plans changed and we now will be travelling with 2 adults and 2 children so we would only need a 1br or eff that sleeps 4. I called and changed the request from 6 Ad to 2A/2C. Does the person actually working on our request get this information. If not, is there anything else we can do to maximize our chances of getting this exchange. If so please let me know. This is our first experience with SFX and we are still hoping you will come through.

    Thanks so much !!

jzsackst;81591 - Thank you for your post. When you edit your requests online, it not only modifies the data in the exchange system, it automatically also sends a notice to the agent advising of the changes.

I must be very frank and upfront with you. In expecting a high quality resort for a major Holiday week (Christmas) and in a prime ski-area... is almost like setting yourself up to fail for the exchange. Such a request is so heavily restricted against probable results, although it's okay to search for it... it is critical for you to add "Alternative" travel weeks and/or locations as soon as possible. This would be the same condition no matter which exchange company you use. I do see the agent advised you of the difficulty factors when the request was made.

Let me add to this... For there to be a reasonable expectation for positive results, there must be a Reasonable placement for a request. Advice we give in our website and by agents....

    1. Be Flexible with both travel weeks and/or locations if you can.

    2. Don't pick a "specific resort". Pick the area and dates and let us find you a 5 star resort in that area.

    3. If you pick just one specific date/week for travel in a high demand location in high-season, you set the odds way against you for results. Pick a window of time if you can.

    4. AVOID major Holiday Weeks. Or if you do request them, add alternative travel weeks as a back-up. These are the most demanded weeks of the year and the least available.

In high quality resorts, and especially ski resorts where buyers pay thousands of dollars more to own these specific weeks, their motivation is not to exchange them. If it was, they would buy a regular high-season week for thousands less and then trade it.

Their motivation is for personal use and enjoyment. Thats why they paid thousands more for the privilege of locking in that specific week. If they do not use it, their next motivation is to Rent it for maybe $4-5,000 for the week. Exchange is the least motivation people like this have. You may find the odd Christmas /Holiday week become available, but typically these would be at the older not so great resorts on the tired-side. (That level of property is not what we specialize in).

We really want this to work for you. But we know from many years of experience, expecting an exchange in a good quality ski resort for Christmas week... is a very unlikely probability in most cases. We hope you can add alternative travel weeks, which can make a huge difference and really are the basis for an exchange to work.

Hope this helps and sorry for the speech; but we do want the exchange process to work for you.

      Mark,

Thanks so much for the information. We do completely understand how difficult this exchange may be. That is why we requested it so early. We have family travelling to Park City at this time and it is the only time we can go. We are hoping and praying that an exchange will come through and wanted to do everything we could to maximize our chances. As I said we understand all the variables standing in our way but are giving it a shot anyway. We certainly won't hold it against SFX if our exchange doesn't come through. But we will certainly toot SFX's horn very loudly if it does. Wish us luck!!!!!
