  • Southwest Florida

Hi - I am thinking about becoming a Platinum member. I have not ever been a member of SFX before.

I am looking for February or March, 2008 in Southwest Florida on the beach.

Will I need to pay for two year's membership fees because the request is more than 12 months ahead?

Also, is a SW Florida exchange during this time frame a good possibility? Are you normally able to fulfill this request?

I can deposit a Fairfield week (I am VIP) - so can pick a good trader such as Las Vegas or Myrtle Beach to deposit.

    Thanks in advance,
    Judy

Looking for the stuff that is no longer available through RCI?

A good resort on the beach in that area in that timeframe is one of the toughest trades there is.

      You can say that again.

        Tough trade...

        Thanks for your replies.

I guess I was hoping that 'tough' might be at least a little 'less tough' with SFX??? We are getting married there - love the gulf area.

Maybe I should just rent out one of my timeshares and take the proceeds to rent a SW unit in Florida.

I love a challenge - still would like to try though to get an exchange. No thrill like securing a tough trade!

Judy - thank you for your post. Let me address the SW Florida request scenario in general.

Sanibel, Captiva, Marco Island have very very few quality timeshare resorts. Most of the people who own in that region live in the north eastern States, and they love the idea of escaping the cold and rain in the winter. That region during premium demand time, which is January - April has around a 98%Owner occupancy rate. As a rule, space for exchange is created by Owners trading out.

With that kind of Owner occupancy rate, regardless of which exchange company you use, historically it is "extremely" difficult to trade in. My suggestion... have SW Florida as your first choice, but be "Flexible" and open to alternative locations for your exchange. This may not place you in your first choice, but it will dramatically increase your chances of a "great vacation".

          Hope this helps...

As my 10-year study documents, as posted in my SW FL threads OH and OY, we did fine getting Gold Crowns on the beach in January through RCI until 2004, searching for 2006. Then it just stopped.

Some of the lesser resorts are still available. Here is my list of the Normal Suspects:

            Lehigh Resort Club
            Charlotte Bay Resort & Club
            Fishermen's Village Resort Club
            Marco Resort & Club
            Sea Oats Beach Club
            Estero Island Beach Club
            Bonita Resort & Club
            Lahaina Inn
            Royal Beach Club
            Kahlua Beach Club
            Marina Village at Snug Harbor
            Sunrise Bay Resort and Club
            Tropical Sands
            Englewood Beach Club and Resort
            Windward Passage Resort
            White Sands Resort Club
            Mariner’s Boathouse

Very informative. I really love that area. It's nice to see some 'lesser resorts' might be available...location, location, location!

              Thanks again,
              Judy
