Tom - thank you for your post.

I could be wrong, but I believe with RCI if you are requesting to travel within 60 or maybe 90 days in advance, only then you are allowed to request an upgrade in size of unit at no extra charge. I know it used to be that way, but am not sure if it still applies.

If you are an SFX Gold Member, the upgrade fee from a one bedroom to a two bedroom is only $149.

If you are a Platinum Member, you are allowed a one-size upgrade for Free.

    Hope this helps...

Thx..Just to Clarify if I need accommodations for 6 or 8 with a one bedroom deposit as a gold member I think you are saying I may request a 2 bedroom and if found would be charged the upgrade fee of $149.00..while if Platinum and under the same circumstances I would not have an additional fee?? Is that a correct understanding??

My question was regarding SFX(which you answered) not RCI (which I brought up) but in my experience I have booked a # of 2 bedrooms from a studio with my on line searchable deposits regardless of time frames..Thanks Tom

There is the $149 fee to upgrade a bonus week. The standard bonus week is a one bedroom for deposits of a one or two or three bedroom unit. At either membership level.

            Mark,
There is never an upgrade fee with RCI to get a larger unit. If your Studio or 1BR deposit has enough trade power to pull a 2 or 3BR unit it is yours. I've done it and it's fun.

Yes, it is fun! But it contributes to the inequity of the RCI system and the lack of desirable exchanges for some members, especially those who don't plan two years ahead and/or know how to work the system. Do I take advantage of it? You bet. Also remember that RCI puts significant emphasis on location over quality...

II does seem to allow a one-size upgrade with no fee in some instances. I know I can see 1 bedrooms with my President's week Utah studio, but rarely can I see 2 bedrooms unless they are off-season (another thing SFX doesn't trade in).

Mark, I think the 60 day window you were referring to is the Flexchange period in II, during which many trading restrictions are lifted and weaker weeks can get some great exchanges not otherwise available.

Glitter - thank you for your post. I could be wrong, but I believe there was a time that RCI did allow you to book anything available within a 60 day (plus/minus) period that was available, regardless of the size of your deposited unit. Space sitting around with that short lead time becomes high-risk and needs to be booked asap. I don't know if they still do that.

Phil - maybe there is no upgrade fee, however... is it possible the Gold Crown studio may pull a 1 or 2 bedroom unit that may be bigger in size but "lower in quality"? Perhaps a lower quality larger unit with an equivalent trading-power to a high quality studio. Just a thought.

Once again... I believe at one time you could request /book anything available in their system that sits within a 60 or maybe a 90 day in advance window, regardless of what you deposited (They used to do that a number of years ago, I don't know if it's changed).

If we operated a system that allowed people to deposit studios and get booked into one and two bedroom units, why would people ever want to spend the money on the one and two bedroom units????

Then one's and two's would disappear over time as new purchasers buy a studio, and this degrades the whole system.

What does that say and do to the credibility of the process ???

Mark, it doesn't even have to be a gold crown studio that pulls the 1 or 2BRs. As Glitter said, RCI puts more emphasis on the location. To answer your question, the studio can pull equal or of "greater quality". For example, I used an offseason tiger studio to pull a 3BR HGVC in Orlando. I can tell you we didn't go to "lesser quality".

You're correct. If everyone knew how to do that or did that, the system would collapse. It's a good thing that not every does.

RCI has a degraded system with no credibility? Impossible.
