  • If I can't use a bonus week reservation

    Hi Mark,

I have a reservation using a bonus week. It's looking like we may not be able to go. Am I allowed to give the week to someone else in exchange for what I paid for the bonus week plus the guest certificate fee?

Sorry if this has been asked before....

    Thanks!

Hi Ailin - thank you for your post. In the event you cannot use your bonus week, you have two basic options....

    1. If it is more than 30 days in advance, you can cancel it and rebook it before it's expiration date, and just pay a $50 rebooking fee.

    2. Or, you can assign it to anyone of your choice as your Guest. I am sure your Guest wouldn't have a problem reimbursing you your costs for the week and the name change fee on the booking.

    Hope this helps...

Thanks for the quick reply! I didn't know about option 1. Just to clarify, if I cancelled, but wasn't able to book anything before the bonus week expired, I would lose the bonus week fees I already paid?

Ailin - sorry, I gave you incorrect information. The rebooking fee for the bonus week is $149, not $50.

That is correct. Within the next 2-3 weeks, we will be announcing a great Insurance package that would cover your losses in such circumstances.

          Insurance

          Hi MArk,
          1. As a Plat membr, I thought I had the insurance for when we had to cancel a bonus week in APril due to a death in the family. However, then I found out there was none for a bonus week. Will that become available?

          2. Then since then, I have called and been told that there is NO insurance policy at all, even for regular weeks for Plat members. What is the actual policy now?

          3. ANother note: SFX did its best to find someone to take that cancelled week for us - it was really a last minute, my sister-in-law had died 3 days before we were to leave for Cancun and so you all tried to contact other people who had been interested. If those people had been able to get the air transporation (they weren't) then I would have received a refund. I thought that was a very nice policy and you did your best

Joan - thank you for your post.

Let me combine our answer to both 1. and 2. We used to offer our Members a week reinstatement program that provided you with a replacement week in the event you cancelled your reservation less than 30 days prior to arrival. The cost was only $29. It was only offered for exchange weeks. We have not offered this program in the last few weeks.

In continuously seeking to provide our Member's with better service and value, we are in negotiation with a large insurance company to create a package that offers our Members a far greater coverage and value, that not only covers your week, but also your maintenance fee, lost luggage and other items still in negotiation.

We will be making a formal announcement by the end of next week with all the details.

Well, this is certainly an unpleasant surprise. I had to cancel a week that I was really looking forward to because my husband needs to attend a conference for work. When I called to cancel, I asked if there would be any problem, and I was told no, because I canceled more than 30 days in advance.

Am I correct in understanding that if I can't find another week that fits my needs, I will be out the entire cost of my bonus week that I paid for 7 months ago? If I had known that, I might have gone on vacation with my mother instead.

Sue - thank you for your post. The previous post stated "Less than 30 days". More than 30 days you do not lose the week. Your account is credited for another exchange.

                Hope this helps...

                    Hi Mark,

I'm sorry, I'm more confused now. I thought the answer to Sue's question about losing the cost of the bonus week would be yes.

I'm less concerned about losing the bonus week than I am about losing the fees I've already paid ($399 plus $149 upgrade fee). If I cancel the reservation 30 days in advance do I get a refund of the fees?

                    Thanks,
                    Ailin

Ailin - sorry for any confusion. Re the Bonus week cancellation policy.

If cancelled more than 30 days in advance, there are no refunds. You will be given a credit for another Bonus Week up to the orignal expiration date in which to use it. When you are re-booked for another week, there is a $149 re-booking fee to pay. Even with the rebooking fee, you are still ahead of the game as the typical value of a bonus week can be from $1400 to $1800 plus/minus.

                      Hope this helps...
