Hi! I'm new to the whole timeshare thing and still trying to figure out how to best use my weeks to my advantage.
I have one registered and one VF week at the Grand Mayan. I'm enrolled in their elite rental program so that I can get cash for my weeks when I don't want to use them, and so I decided to deposit my two weeks for 2007 as such: 1 to Elite (for cash) and 1 to SFX.
I chose SFX because frankly, the RCI website made my eyes water, and I liked that SFX isn't limited to one exchange company. I also wanted to take advantage of the GM offer for a bonus week.
I called SFX to ask a few questions and to verify that I was supposed to call the Mayan first. I asked about the bonus week, too, because the flyer I got from the GM didn't say anything about my week having to be in the prime season, nor did the information I read on the web.
But then, when I looked at the calendar grid on the SFX site that listed prime and high demand times, it said that you had to deposit in the prime time to get the bonus week. When I asked the SFX rep about this he said no, that I didn't have to deposit a prime week. He said to just call the Mayan and ask to deposit a week. I figured maybe SFX chose the week they wanted?
So I called the Mayan Reservations and followed the instructions and told them to deposit one week with SFX. When I lasted logged on with SFX, it said that I had deposited one week at the GM Riviera Maya for the end of April/beginning of May.
I was really surprised by that because on the calendar grid, this time period isn't listed at all, and it said you have to deposit in prime or high season. But obviously SFX had accepted the week, so maybe it was okay.
But... I don't see anything about a bonus week. Did I do something wrong? How do I get my bonus week? I know I can't use the bonus week during holiday weeks, but I was hoping to use it for something toward the end of the summer with my kids.
