  • Trade and deposit basic questions

    Hi Mark -

First question: If I deposit a 1 bedroom summer week at Grand Summit Canyons am I only eligible to request a trade into a 1-bedroom? Or would the option for a 2 bedroom be available to me?

Second question: If I deposit 2 different 1-bedroom weeks, can I request a trade for two 1-bedroom condos for the same vacation week? I'm thinking of going to London and need 2 separate condos for the same week.

    Thanks,
    Hudson

Hudson - thank you for your post.

Question 1: If you are a Gold Member, you can request an upgrade to a 2 bedroom. The upgrade fee is I believe $199. If you are a Platinum Member, it is Free. There is far greater value in Platinum than in Gold.

Question 2: Yes* *However... it is exremely difficult to get one week in London. Getting 2 weeks will have a high probability of failure.

There are only about 2 - 3 very small quality timeshare properties in good locations in London with only about 40-50 units between them. About 80% of Owners in those properties use their time, leaving a very small percentage that become available for exchange.... and the whole world wants to go to London.

Just to get one week, you basically have to give a big window of Flexibility of travel dates. I know it's not what you want to hear, but that is the scenario for London, possible but highly unlikely.

Our recommendation, request just one unit for yourself, or request two units in the English countryside where there may be better opportunity of space.

What can I do with these particular Bonus weeks?

I see that I have 2 bonus weeks in my account I didn't realize were there.

          Requests # 91229 and 91230

Are there restrictions on this type of bonus week?

Are these only for Mexico or anywhere?

Would they likely pull something in a warm location ( Mexico or Caribbean) for Spring break, 2008?

I appreciate your response on this forum, which is much more efficient for me than leaving voice mail with the reps.

Hudson - thank you for your post. 230 is a Mexico Bonus week, and 229 is a regular bonus week for anywhere except your home resort or NY.

You certainly can request Spring Break. However, being a Holiday week with huge demand, you may want to try and add some flexibility on travel weeks to increase the possibilities.

            Hope this helps...

If I remember prior advice by Mark correctly, a strategy would be to utilize the exchange week first, as it and the bonus week appear to have the same "pull", if the desired weeks are within the timeframe of the bonus week's useability. Theory being that the exchange fee is less than the bonus week fee. Bird in the hand and all that

Personally, unless you plan on going to London in the dead of winter, I think you'd be better off hotelling it. Most folks I know make good use of their frequent stayer points for such purposes. We did recently when staying in Sydney (Australia) and will again in London in October.

Flexibility is key with timesharing. How well I know

Yes but the bonus weeks expire first so I would think using the bonus weeks first would make more sense.

Hi Pat - thank you for your post. Actually I do not recall ever advising to use an exchange week first, as the Bonus Week expires first. It wouldn't make any sense using the exchange week first as it has a two year past deposit date window in which to use vs. a one year window for the bonus week.

Although the odds of getting a quality resort in London during the Summer are very small, we do get a number of London deposits througout the rest of the year other than winter time.

                  Hope this helps...
