  • Resort Fees, Taxes, etc.

    Hi,

We will be using our first SFX TS exchange in a couple of months.. and I was just wondering if the fee we paid to SFX covers all taxes, fees, etc or if we should expect a bill when we check out. I would imagine that room cleaning would be an extra fee because it usually is, but anything else?

    Thanks,

    Amanda

Other than leaving a voluntary tip for housekeeping at the end of our stay, we have never paid a room cleaning fee on any of our exchanges through SFX.

If local government charge occupancy tax, your exchange fee will not cover it, but the exchange confirmation form should tell you that. The local government I know that does that is Hawaii. I think there may have 1 or 2 more other places but can not recall.

If you go through exchange, most state will not charge the sale tax, if you go through renting, depends on the exchange company, it may including in the renting fee or maybe extra, but you will know that in front.

The resort could charge you parking fee, usage fee. These will not cover in the exchange fee, but the exchange confirmation form should tell you that, sometime, they may miss it. I know Timeshare in Big city usually charge parking fee. One of my resort (Kingsgate) charge dialy usage fee to the game room no matter you use it or not.

The maid service usually is covered in exchange process since you already paid maid service in your resort. However, most US resorts will not have daily maid service. Each resort will have its own policy. Quite few only have mid week service. And some will not even have midweek service. If you want extra mid service, you will have to pay yourselves.

        Amanda,
Where are you going? That will help people who have been to your destination, better answer your question, and quite possibly specific to your resort.
I went to Morritt's (Cayman Islands) in December and the maid service is daily w/no fee. However, i did have a hefty 'energy' surcharge or something that they termed it. The 'meter' was running the whole time I was there (i.e. - it's NOT a flat rate. it is for actual electricity usage). I can't remember if the Atrium/St. Maarten had a electricity fee or not. There was daily maid service there as well.

My home resort Greensprings (Williamsburg) has optional maid service but of course, no energy charges. I rarely have to pay ANYTHING when I check out of there. Actually, I dont' know of a resort in the continental US with the energy charge. This seems to apply to island resorts.

        Hope this helps. Happy vacationing!

The Grand Mayan Riveria Mayan had a tax of ~$10 US/day, so I would guess there may be taxes at the other two. We are going to GM NV in Oct., so post back after your return.
Give me a place with 4 S's: Sun, sand, surf, & suds-Dale (from Illinois)

Hi Amanda - the previous posts pretty much covered it. Some resorts have utility surcharges. Some locations there is a local government occupancy tax. Maid service is typically twice a week, any extra they will charge. The exchange fee doesn't cover these items.

              Hope this helps...
