  • Upgrading to platinum membership? On the fence

I joined sfx as a gold member. When they emailed me about the bonus week promotion, I went ahead and deposited a 1br week in sedona and check out what they had to offer. We live in Phoenix, have 3 kids in school so we will be vacationing summer or during their spring and fall week off. We also like to go places that we can drive to as cannot afford airfare for 5 people. I was primarily drawn to the idea of trading with sfx if it was going to increase our chances of getting to go to sandiego area in the summertime. I have you looking for something is sothern cal for next summer. Are there many resorts in your system around there that have 1br that will sleep 5. Is it more likely that were gonna have to pay the upgrade fee if were are ever offered something. Will I have the opportunity to go to a platinum membership at that time instead of paying the upgrade fee or will it be too late.

Can you just confirm for me how much it is going to cost to use the bonus week. I put in a search with one of them at one time. when i was done submitting it the next screen that came up said fees for the week would be 399bonus week + 149exchange fee +149 Upgrade fee +39guest fee. When your promotion told me the bonus week was going to be 399, i assumed thats what the total cost would be 399 as long as it was a 1br. would I be able to specificaly request to only look for a 1br that would accomidate 5 people(like the one that I deposited).

Dustin - thank you for your post. Airfare for 5 certainly is extremely expensive for a family vacation, and a drive-to vacation certainly makes more sense.

In about 99% of all resorts, a one-bedroom unit sleeps a maximum of 4 persons. It is the exception rather than the rule where a one-bedroom unit has an occupancy of higher than 4. I know in Mexico, in many resorts a one bedroom unit may sleep up to 6. I am not aware of any resorts in California that do. This means if there are 5 of you in the party, a 2-bedroom unit sleep up to 6 will be required.

Bonus weeks... Respectfully, you may have misunderstood the pop-up window with all those fees. That window shows what you "save" as a Platinum Member. Our Bonus Weeks are advertised at only $399 for a one-bedroom suite. An upgrade to a two-bedroom suite is only an additional upgrade fee of $149 for Gold Members. (There is no exchange fee to pay on a bonus week).

As a Platinum Member, you can request an upgrade to a two-bedroom unit for Free. The Platinum Membership is "Less" than the cost of an upgrade fee and you get many more benefits like an additional $100 discount off the price of the Sell-off list (extra bonus weeks).... And the ability to request up to 18 months in advance instead of 12.

At the time you place your request, you need to be a Platinum Member to get the Free upgrade. If it's within a few days of your request placement, the agent may allow an upgrade at that time.

    Hope this helps...

I'm confused. Elsewhere you have said that the free upgrade does not apply for the Bonus weeks, only the original exchange. I will look for a post but in the meantime, can you clarify this?
      TIA,
      Jim

Jim - thank you for your post. Sorry if I caused any confusion... I should have added that the Free upgrade from a 1-bedroom to a 2-bedroom unit is for an Exchange for Platinum Member.

For Bonus Weeks, a unit size upgrade fee is only $149 for the week in addition to the base price of $399.

Whether you are Gold or Platinum, the Bonus week unit size upgrade is the same price.

For Platinum Members, the exchange fee is $129 instead of $149.

The Sell-off weeks are $100. less for Platinum Members too and you can place your request up to 18 months in advance, instead of 12 months.

        Hope this helps...

I went ahead and upgraded my membership to platinum for 5 years. I really hope it ends up paying off for me. If i have an request that has been in for about a month, do I need to delete it and re-submit in order to get the free size upgrade. I deposited a 1br but need a unit for 5.

Dustin - thank you for upgrading. Please do not delete that request, as you will go to the back of any queue when you resubmit it. You can login and "edit" that request by adding the additional people to it, and maintain your position.
