  • New to SFX with Cabo week to exchange

I am a new timeshare owner, and have never traded before. I have a Presidential Suite (2BR/3BA) at Hacienda del Mar in Cabo San Lucas. I just booked our 2008 week for Thanksgiving week (Saturday to Saturday). Is this a marketable week? Will I be able to get a Spring Break week at Beaver Creek as a trade? What about a top quality resort at Whistler?

I would really like to deposit my week with SFX, but need some guidance and assistance before I do. Thanks.

Cody - thank you for your post. Your resort is a very nice property with high demand, and would have very high trading power. However, you can have all the trading power in the world, but if the space you are requesting is not available, then it's a moot point.

In good quality resorts in ski-areas, people who buy those shares not only pay a lot of money for those weeks (around $40k-$80k), but they are skiiers and want to go skiing. Point being, very little space is deposited with exchange companies especially during premium ski Holiday weeks, like President's week, Spring Break etc. So it's not impossible, but can be very difficult to secure, especially at Beaver Creek. It's not like Mexico or Orlando where you have many resorts, therefore increased odds of trading activity. In Beaver Creek there are only one or two properties. Whistler has more resorts than Beaver Creek. But even still, if it's a Holiday week... your expecations may not be met.

The reality is, for ski weeks in decent quality resorts, you must be "reasonably Flexible" on both travel weeks and locations, and try to avoid major Holiday weeks. Being new to timeshare exchange, it is very important to learn that a correctly placed request (regardless of which exchange company you use) should include alternative dates and locations (Flexibility). If you are not flexible, then it will not work as well for you.

    Hope this helps...

Thanks, Mark. Your thoughts and comments are very helpful. I think I get it now -- a little late, but I get it.
