  • Modifying a Request Online?

    Hi Mark

I think this has been discussed before but I can't find it. If I go online and modify a request for instance if I have a search going for a 2 week period and want to cut it down to 1 week only for the same areas do I lose my place in line?

Lynn - thank you for your post. In this instance, you would maintain your same position.

    Hope this helps...

      Mark,
Is the reverse also true? ie, if I expand the dates or locations on an existing request?

Hi Arlene - In this instance, if you add dates and/or locations... your original request will maintain it's position in queue, however the new additions will be queued as of their date of placement, as they are "new", and it wouldn't be fair to "bump" another member who placed their request for the same place and dates prior to you.

        Hope this helps...

What happens to my place in line if I was to change a request from a 1BR to a 2BR?
Give me a place with 4 S's: Sun, sand, surf, & suds-Dale (from Illinois)

                  Mark,

I am resurrecting this thread to ask the same questions based on this warning I receive if I try to edit my request. If I add additional locations-do I really lose my place in line for the original location choice?

Why does my submission date change if i edit my search parameters?

Once you place a request with SFX, an agent immediately starts searching for available accomodations in the areas and dates that you submitted.

It is often the case that there are many members requesting the same destination and date ranges. In these situations, we generally prioritize requests on a first come first served basis. To maintain the integrity of this "wait list", we treat an edited request as a new submission.

We understand that there are special circumstances and we will work with you to provide the best possible exchange experience. Feel free to contact our offices and speak with an SFX agent to discuss alternatives.

StressCadet - Thank you for your post.

.................."If I add additional locations-do I really lose my place in line for the original location choice?"

                    Answer: No.

This is evidenced by logging in and reviewing your requests. You will see your original request with the same earlier date of entry.

By adding additional locations and/or travel weeks, technically you are not modifying your original request, you are adding a request. The fairest method is to leave your original placements "intact", and any new requests for locations and dates are effective of the day you made them, and therefore does not "bump" any other member who placed a request for the same locations/dates earlier than you.

The "auto-response" in our notice needs to be modified and more specific. Not all "edits" are treated as a new submission. Eg. if you want to modify the number of people in your party... If you gave a date range of dates, lets say you can travel any week between March through May, and you can now only travel in April. In this instance modifying to within a lesser range than what you originally requested will maintain it's original placement date, because its "less than" rather than "greater than"..... and is fair.

                    Hope this helps...

Ok...got it! I was too scared to do the edit because of the warning...all I wanted to do was edit my comments and I have just done that and the date stayed the same.

I see now where the button to add locations and dates is entirely different from the edit button and yes, I agree any new locations should start from the date entered.

I really shouldn't attempt to do this stuff late at night...it makes a lot more sense in the morning

                      Thanks Mark!
