  • Resort Reviews After SFX Exchange

Mark: I just stayed at a resort in Kauai that I rented from extra inventory. Presently, there is no mechanism to allow exchangers to give official written feedback to SFX other than by e-mail (I suppose). Having had more than several exchanges over the years, I feel my input to SFX as someone who actually visited and stayed in a resort could be valuable. I always find that the people I speak with at SFX are more than interested in hearing how the experience was and are sometimes surprised to find out a few things. The feedback mechanism at your website is currently under construction but is much needed. I have a list of reviews/input that I would like to give SFX about specific resorts--some good, some not as good.

    Dude,
I have to agree with you. I was at the Donatello, arriving back home last night. To say I was disappointed with the room is an understatement. I would like to be able to give feedback to SFX via their site, but that is not available. Now, I am sure that not all Donatello rooms are as tired as the one I was assigned, but if SFX does not know then how can they advise their exchangers.

That said, we did have an excellent vacation and the things that were subpar did not ruin the trip, but with SFX touting their 5 star experiences they do need to know about the details that make the experience less.

Dude-luv - thank you for your post. We totally agree with you that Member feedback about their resort and their overall "Vacation Experience" is valuable information for both the company and especially other Members.

Our new website in production at this time, will have a very pro-active Member Feedback section. We expect this site to launch before the end of this year.

In "perspective"....... Regardless of how high in quality a resort is, even with the high-end "brands", there comes a time when the property reaches it's refurbishment cycle. And yes, even those super high-end brands get tired and worn looking after time. This is all part of the property's "life-cycle". This also applies to your home and any other property you may own.

Of course we always want to stay at a property when it's in a pristine-state, but the "reality" is, there will be times when you stay at a property that is in it's tired, ready to be refurbished state, and yes these these include the highest rated properties in the timeshare network.

      Hope this perspective helps...

Joy - thank you for your post. My previous post above to Dude-luv will partially respond to your concerns. We are very surprised and sorry to hear about your experience at the famous Club Donatello. This is the most sought after timeshare in San Francisco, (I believe it is a member of the Grande-Lux hotel collection). This is also the property that presidents of resort development groups insist on staying at, and can take a very long time to exchange into with other exchange companies.... and certainly has the highest ratings with the "other-two" majors.

Not to say the unit you were assigned wasn't ready for it's refurbishment cycle, but is it possible it simply didn't meet your expectations because it wasn't a large resort-style unit perhaps like what you own??

On occassion we do find Members who own at large units in large open resort areas are somewhat surprised at the very small units in comparison you find in major cities like, SF, NY, London etc. Units in major cities are very small in comparison and are mostly studio /hotel room style units. I am not saying this is the issue in this instance, as I don't know if that specific unit you occupied was slated for "refurb".

Every resort's units are on a cycle for refurbishment. Resorts do not close down the whole property and refurb everything at the same time, they address several units at a time, in accordance with budget and occupancy planning.

SFX specializes in the highest rated timeshare properties. However, no matter what Crown or Star rated resort an exchange company books you into.... even at the "best resorts" you may be assigned by the front desk into a unit that is a little tired and ready for refurb, or you may be assigned a unit that has recently been upgraded.

The most an exchange company can do, is to book you into a highly rated resort for the dates you requested. However, an exchange company has no control over the unit assignment, and some units will be in their "ready for refurb cycle". It is luck of the draw at "all" properties. In the event you are not satisfied with your unit assignment, you may try discussing this with the front desk, let them know your concerns, and perhaps they will be able to reassign you to another unit in the property.

        Hope this helps...

Mark, if SFX is aware that a particular resort is "ready for refurb cycle", then, if a potential exchanger asks about this, would SFX give them this info?

Hi Elli and thank you for your post. I can see your point, but this really doesn't work. Typically, it's not like the whole resort has all units ready for refurb at one time. Refurb is done over a number of years on a rotational cycle basis where a percentage of the units are done at a time. For all practical purposes, virtually "all" resorts (including where you own) on a year round basis will have units that are in better shape than others within the resort. The units with the most wear are the one's usually slated for the next refurbishment.

This for the most part applies to "all resorts", including the highest named brands you can think of.

            Hope this insight helps...
