If I put in a very general request for a bonus week such as coastal Florida, will I be given a chance to decide if I want a resort that comes up? Or will it be automatically booked for me?

My experience has been that they will call you before booking anything.

If there are specific resorts you will only accept, you can specify that in the comments box, and an exact match will be defined in accordance with your instructions. Think of it as a work-order.
In your example above, even for a broad search, please add the areas you are willing to accept. If there is a "close-match", maybe a nearby area, or the week before or after etc. then we put the unit on hold, and offer it to you for a yes or no. In this example if you decline, then of course there are no fees to pay.
Please do not place a request for a bonus week or an exchange unless you are serious about wanting what you requested for. In the event circumstances change, please cancel the request as soon as possible to avoid any possible charges.
We try to model this to be as fair and reasonable as possible.
