  • European resorts, Studios? and which months?

    Hi Mark,

Got another great exchange using my bonus week, I want to thank the team at SFX and hope Scarlet is feeling better.

As you can see from my other request, I am looking to travel to Europe. And for this reason, I am looking at buying a RHC week membership, in addition to some RHC points that I just bought, can you tell me if SFX will accept the following resorts:

Florence: Residence La Contessina, it is a jr suite sleeps 4, will you consider it 1 bdrm or studio? and which months are accepted?

Florianopolis (Brazil): Jerere Beach Village, do you have request for this
    resort?

There are others, but most of the ones in Europe are studios that sleeps 4, such as the ones in Paris and Florence, will you accept them? and in which months?

    Jill

    Jill,

SFX has accepted London studios from me and I think I heard that they are now accepting Paris studios but I doubt they will accept studio for other cities since the other places they accept studio is SF and NYC.

Hi Jill - glad we came through for you.

.......Florence: Residence La Contessina, it is a jr suite sleeps 4, will you consider it 1 bdrm or studio? and which months are accepted?.......

We would gladly accept a deposit of a one-bedroom suite any week between May through September. (A deposit June - Sept. qualifies for a bonus week).

Re Brazil... unfortunately we have no Member demand for that area. It tends to be more of a regional demand.

Paris... the Napoleon, one-bedroom unit. Any week between May - September. (a deposit June - Sept. qualifies for a bonus week).

        Hope this helps...

But do you consider a jr suite that sleeps 4 a studio or 1 bdrm?

and, do you not take studio in Paris or other major European cities?

Jill - if the Junior suite has privacy meaning a separate bedroom divided from the living area... that is usually considered as a one bedroom suite. If it is essentially one room with a bed and sleeper sofa with no privacy, then it's a studio.

Studio's in Paris... generally yes. There may be some exceptions in Europe, for example... if it's a resort where the studio is ridiculously small, like a hotel room... then no. It can be on a case by case basis. The whole idea is not to have an upset inbound Member. We base this from previous experience. Different countries have different standards and what is considered an acceptable size to meet expectations.

I am sorry if this sounds a little confusing. I wanted to keep it simple. Hope this helps. Simply put... some resorts yes and others no.

              Hi Mark,

No Problem, I understand your explanation perfectly and it makes sense.

              Thanks

I just used my RHC week to stay in Rome at the Domus Roman apts. We were suppose to be in a junior suite but they gave us a unit with a separate bdrm but it only had a kitchenette. If there is no real kitchen, we had a sink, small refrig, and two burner stove, but there is a separate bedroom with privacy for 2 and non privacy for 4 on two couches, is this a one bdrm or a junior suite?

I have pretty much the same questions. I have two RHC weeks and 30,000 pts so I have the opportunity to get many lovely European places. Which European locations do you accept and what size room is your minimum? Do you have a preference as to the best exchangers eg. London might be more attractive than Rome, a Paris studio might be better than a one bdrm in the south of Spain etc? I don't know which resorts I should reserve to get the best exchanges through SFX.

Also I just upgraded to a Platinum SFX membership. Will that help me get better exchanges? Do platinum members get priority if two parties request the same location?

Icydog - thank you for your post. By our definition, this would be a junior suite. Many European properties have by our definition a "mini-kitchen" rather than a full-kitchen. In many instances what they call a one-bedroom suite is what we in the US would call a large studio.

                    Hope this helps...

We accept deposits for London, Paris, Rome etc. London will score higher for trading power. One bedroom units have higher trading power than Studio units. One bedroom units in European Cities tend to be on the small side, what many would consider calling a "junior Suite" (about the size of a larger studio).

A Platinum membership will not get you better exchanges. It gives you more benefits and savings. Hope this helps.

                        Mark,
Did you mean to say that a one bdrm unit has better trading power than a two bdrm unit? How can that be?

I was surprised that you would consider the accommodations we had in the Domus Romana to be a Junior suite. Is it the kitchen size that determines the nomenclature for the unit? For example, there was a large separate bdrm (with a door)that slept 2 in a king size bed, and then off the foyer there was a large living room with a dining area with two couches that opened to sleep 4 more people. But the kitchen was small like in a studio then this is considered a studio not a one bdrm??

Will you pls reply to both of my queries. I also want to get it straight so I know what to reserve.

                        Thanks a lot, Marylyn

Hi Marylyn - Thank you for your reply. Apologies... in my earlier post I meant to say "one bedroom units have higher trading power than Studio's". (I have corrected it in the post).

The nomenclature of a unit is comprised of a number of components that make up the total score for trading power. For example a full kitchen would give a higher score than a one bedroom unit with a mini-kitchen.

If a unit does have sleeping quarters separate and divided with privacy, then technically it is considered as a one-bedroom unit, even if it is small and about the size of a large studio.

The point I was trying to make earlier was, in many instances (but not all), one-bedroom units in Europe are small compared to what the US expecation and standard is. Based on the total square footage of such units, most people would consider them as a Junior Suite (a large studio). But of course, there are exceptions.

                          Hope this helps...
