  • Bonus Week...HA!

OK Mark, this is NUTS. I have a Mexico bonus week and I thought that it would be nice to ask some friends along for our Thanksgiving exchange that we already have booked at the GM RM. I got a call today...ALMOST $800 DOLLARS TO USE THE THING? C'MON....I can rent it cheaper (from YOU even), than that.

    That Mexico week is USELESS.

What's really upsetting is that when I requested it online the thing came up at $299...only when I got the call did I find out the real cost.

Shame on SFX if I have the story right. I'm hoping that Scarlet is just new or something and has things confused.

Holly, We used a SFX bonus week to go to Grand mayan Nuevo Vallarta Thanksgiving 2007. I remember that we paid 3 different upgrade feesne to upgrade from Mayan Palace to Grand mayan, one to upgrade from 1BR to 2BR, and one to upgrade to a holiday. Total came to $897. I think you are seeing the sum of several upgrade fees. The total cost was worth it to us, but YMMV.

Just wanted to add that if you were to go to the GM on your own the sign on the front desk say's $500 a night or at least that is what it said 2 years ago when I was there. It might have gone up. IMO $900 for a holiday week there is a great deal.

Holly - thank you for your post. With regards to "HA!"...

The only thing that's "Nuts" about this is how Low the Price is! It's even lower than the maintenance fee !!

At our promotional site, "Welcome Back to Mexico.com" prices start as "low as $299", but clearly not for the "Grand Mayan".

And No... you cannot buy it cheaper from us as you claim. Please allow me to explain. If you are holding an SFX Bonus Week certificate for Mexico, the advertised price in the offering "clearly" states it is only for a 1-bedroom suite, excludes Grand Mayan Resorts and Major Holiday Weeks.

It does however allow you to pay nominal upgrade fees for larger units, Holiday weeks and a stay at the Grand Mayan.

As Frank states in his post above, the rack rate for the Grand Mayan is way higher than the special pricing, and these Holiday weeks are getting booked fast.

        Hope this helps...

Not to perseverate on this, but I also ran into this just last week... I used my MX bonus week to book late September Mayan Palace, my exchange fee was $379 as expected. I asked Scarlet if Grand Mayan was available, and she said yes, for an upgrade fee of $299, making a total fee of $678. However, if I am reading the "Welcome Back to MX" promo correctly:

          SFX Preferred Resorts ,

I could rent a 1BR week at GM for $599. Unless I am missing something, that looks to me like renting at GM through SFX is less expensive than using my MX bonus week to stay at GM.

Don't misunderstand, I recognize that $379 is a bargain for MP, and $599 (or $678) is a bargain for GM and I have been very pleased with my business at SFX. I am simply pointing out that OP Holly appears to be correct when she states that she could rent the week from SFX for less that the cost of her exchange.

Thanks, Mark, for your great customer service, you make it very easy to work with SFX.
