  • Alaska Tour Questions

We are looking to fly into Anchorage and take a tour to Denali National Park - including staying in the park for 2 or 3 nights.

Any recommendation for a good tour and/or agency?

We would be going this summer, probably the first part of August.

Haven’t been there before, so sorry no useful recommendation. I am here only because I hope to get first hand info from you. Could you pls share with us your experience after you come back? You know I may go to that place in one or two years. My dream is to travel around the world, so I need to gather as much as info as possible.

            The Final Frontier!

Lucky I stumbled on this thread! My wife and I just returned 2 days ago from 2 wonderful weeks in Alaska!!

We were there visiting my sister and her family who are long time residents of Anchorage and had a whirlwind tour. 2 days in Soldotna where we flew in in a super cub, met my niece and her husband and fished for/caught 2 Kenai River King salmon! 3 days in Seward for silver salmon (cohos), halabut, and rocks. 2 days on the Goodpaster River where we rode in on jetboat miles from any road, stayed with friends who's family had homesteaded the land and built a cabin, camped and played with Arctic Grayling. 1 day at Summit lake and 3 days at Lake Louise for Lake Trout and Burbot. We also saw moose, bear, carabou, otter, beaver, and tons of bird species.. Whew, talk about covering ground and being worn out in a great way! We also brought back over 50 lbs of fresh fish...yummm!

I have to admit we did not take the tour of Denali, however we did meet a wonderful couple from Australia while we were in Seward who did. My understanding is that the park gives the tour by bus and you can schedule a 4 hour trip or an all day 8 hour trip. They said they did enjoy it and while they did see moose and bear they were a quite a way off. He jokingly said that Denali seemed to be more of the "land of the big green bus"..8) The day they left they also took the Kenai Fjord Tour on Resurection Bay out of Seward and said that was well worth it!

All I can say is if you have not been to Alaska..GO! Whatever you do it will be worth the trip and the land is sight to behold! It was a trip we will never forget and wonder why we ever put it off this long!!

Be sure to take a couple memory cards for your camera. I made the mistake of only taking one and had to purchase a second at 3 times it's normal cost in the interior. Also keep in mind summer is their rainy season so have rain gear with you. The weather was low 50s to mid 70's so layer accordingly.

Have a great trip!! Hope this helps...
