I have a unit at Harbortowne Point in Ventura on hold, check-in on Friday 2/12. To get there from the Phoenix area, it's a straight shot on I-10, 479 miles, 7.5 hours. Since I need to take the 10 around (or through?) LA, is that going to add to my travel time? If we leave at 9 am, that puts us near LA around 3 to 4 pm. If I am looking at delays through the city, I might bag the trip, 7.5 hours is about as long as I want to be in a car, especially since this is just a long weekend trip. I've never been near L.A. so any experience you can share will help.

Driving through LA on 10

We have never done that trip..and I know someone who lives there will respond with much better first hand info..but last year when we were considering a cruise out of LA, our neighbors...former LA area residents.... told us to plan to break the trip up, as they claimed that the drive at the end of the day, after hours of driving, you are your most tired and just getting to the Port thru LA would be very stressful.
They have relatives still in the area, and when they go to the Port, they always stop overnight with the relatives who live on the east side of LA....this way they are refreshed for the drive thru to the Port.
We ditched our plan.Life is short, live it with this awareness.

The traffic on I-10 through Los Angeles on a Friday afternoon will be horrendous. I would take I-10 to I-15 and then go north about 5 miles to 210. Take 210 west to 134 to 101 which takes you to Ventura. It is a straight shot west as 210 runs into 134 and then 134 runs into 101. This way you will bypass Los Angeles. We have taken that route many times.John
