I just got back from a great weekend at the resort.

The resort just got done with a complete remodel and looks fantastic

Unless you NEED a pool, I would recommend you consider staying at this resort. Location is fantastic for beach bums.

I will post a review today

Sounds great ! After getting back from the Carlsbad Inn yesterday, I started looking for somewhere around there for 07 ( with the 1 in 4 rule). I saw a review for the resort you mentioned from RCI that trashed the resort !
    Looking forward to your review.

How'd you like Carlsbad Inn? We stayed there this summer and loved it.

I just got back from Oceanside yesterday.. I hung out at the beach n Saturday afternoon.. the weather was fantastic.

Do you own at one of the Grand Pacific resorts?
If you don't, you won;t be allowed to trade into the So Cal Beach Club..
The 1-4 rule from Carlsbad Inn keeps you from returning to any of the Grand Pacific resorts for 4 years.

Did you take picks of the newly remodeled areas?

I would love to see them.

Glad things are looking good...we will be there in just over a month.

Thanks for the report and look forward to the review.

I thought the place was awesome ! Top notch right on down to the silverware. The location was the best. a stone's throw from the beach.Restaurants, bars everywhere. Ocean view from the room ( thanks to your suggestion) . Hopped on the Coaster train right down the street for a scenic ride into san Diego and the Gaslamp Quarters.
Definately looking to go back and spend a few days also at the Fairfield in San Diego.

I posted a review. I'll try to post some pictures soon.

No, I do not own GPR.

We just went to a non smoking resort. smoking will only be allowed in common areas.

For anyone that had to stay at SCBC last year, when it was a dump..
                      Email or PM me.
GPR will let you bypass the 1-4 rule, since you did not get to experience a first class resort.
I'll get you in contact with the proper people that can make it happen.

I saw many people smoking on the balcony...with the smoke blowing back into the room.....is this covered in the new policy?

Overall Big Thumbs up for SCBC!!!

We just spent a week in the end unit 2 BR #401....what a great unit with great views. The resort is really fresh and cleaned up...we really enjoyed it. We really didn't do a thing but go to the beach every day several times a day....what a great week. Here is a mini review.

Location, location, location is all I have to say....the beach location is awesome, the beach is nice, kid friendly, and the surf break is great.

Upside: Location, beach was clean for most part, resort has been cleaned up and refurbished (except a few things) and it was nice, good windows, tile, carpet, and recessed lighting; BBQ's are new and worked well (not enough BBQ tools/utensils); decks were clean, newly conditioned and painted and the deck furniture was new and nice....the new lounge chairs had new cushions and were nice; staff was friendly and helpful, other owners were really nice and friendly (like a long term family); weather was great....waves were great....sunsets on the balcony at dinner time were great (new balcony deck furniture too), beach gear available for free rental, great views from the jacuzzi that was finally working (at least working half the week), falling asleep every night with the sound of the surf and a cool ocean breeze blowing through our corner window (master bedroom), when you exchange in and are an owner you get the unit that was deposited (great if a great unit).

Downside: The sofa beds still suck (I heard they are going to be replaced), only one small full bathroom for a two bedroom, only one parking spot/pass for a two bedroom, the drug dealers/hoodlums that live across the street at the Sea Views apartments, noise in the back bedroom from the train & hoodlums (no A/C so the windows needed to be open), no bikes yet (on the way?????), still some seedy downtown crowd but improving, construction in the garage so car was always filthy, no garage access to the beach (had to go upstairs to go downstairs to beach), SD Union Tribune newspaper vending machine not working and nearest rack a distance away, the drain near the beach side shower is usually clogged and water goes into the strand making a mess, confusion by staff about exchanging beach towels during the day (is it allowed or isn't it?...it should be allowed but not abused).....and.....most of the board members are freaks.

Most of the downside stuff is fixable with some good management. I will add stuff as I remember and write a full review once our reviews database is up and running.

                            John

I added to the above review and would appreciate any feedback....and of course I was joking about the board members being 'freaks' as two of our very own are on the board.
