  • Hotels is Chico, CA near CSUC

My wife and I have to go to Chico for the regional men's soccer tournament between Chico State University and Midwestern State University ( Wichita Falls, TX ). Our son is the Associate Head Coach at Midwestern State University. If they win then it is off to Louisville, KY for the National Championship.

I checked Trip Advisor and other sources and there doesn't appear to be many choices in decent hotels. We are not looking for budget hotels. I would really appreciate it if anybody familiar with Chico could recommend something. Any info about Chico would be greatly appreciated.

The closest we have gotten to Chico is Oroville ( 20 miles away ) where we have stayed many times at the Gold Country Casino/Hotel.

    Thank you in advance.

Chico is a small town. Its population swells during the school year due to the university students. The nearest big city is Sacramento, which is 1 1/2 hours south on I-5 or Highway 99. You would have to stay in Sacramento to get a 5 star, luxury hotel.

I presume you'll be there in the winter. It will be 30 - 40 degrees at night, with highs in the 50s if the sun comes out. If it's overcast all day, then it won't get much higher than 40.

I glanced at the Trip Advisor ratings. Since the two "by Marriott" brands were in the Top 4, I believe the reviews.

The Marriott's are both OK. For more hotels and locations you should call the Chico Chamber of Commerce at: 530-891-5559 and they will give you the names and locations of all the hotels in Chico.

Another option is to contact Chico State and see what info they can provide.

Thank you for the info but it is a little late as the tournament was a week ago. It was my mistake not to mention when it was. I am very familiar with Sacramento and all the surrounding areas as we lived in the SF Bay area for several years. We have never been right to Chico though we have stayed in Oroville several times which is just 20 miles away. In any event, I do appreciate your help.

The good news is that our son's team, Midwestern University, beat Chico State in a blowout 5-0. Midwestern heads to Louisville, KY this week for the finals of the National Championship.

Isn't Chico the Velveeta capital of the US? Seems to me I remember that from when I was a child. I thought it was *a good thing* then.

              Velveeta - Chico

"Herb Caen of the San Francisco Chronicle once wrote in his column that Chico is where you can get Velveeta in the gourmet cheese section of the supermarket."

Hahaha, good old Herb Caen...I used to read his column religiously.
