  • What are the worst California timeshares?

What are the worst California timeshares?....we know how we feel about the best coastal timeshares in Cali...but what about the worst one's in the State? Please enter your candidates.

    I will start with:

The Inn at Silver Lakes in Helendale, CA.....middle of nowhere, shabby, not close to anything, long drive to everywhere.....

    Lake Tahoe

There are several timeshares that are just motel like conversions on a parking lot....

    Americana Village
    Stardust Tahoe

And if you get a bad unit at the Tahoe Beach and Ski Club it is not worth it.....they do have a few right on the beach with a nice location but good luck getting in those.

I didn't like Worldmark's Tahoe 3. The grounds around the resort are beautiful, but the inside is the pits. Debby

I have to agree that Inn at Silver Lakes must be at the top of the list of the pits in CA....awful, and really awful staff.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

            This one??

If yes, the traveler reviews I've seen don't support that opinion, though I haven't stayed there myself.

I wish I could contribute to this thread but really can't; the worst timeshare unit I've stayed in was a smokey lock-off at Shadow Ridge; perhaps my opinion was colored by the fact that we paid for a master and they wouldn't move us. Amazing how one experience can color one's opinion of a property.

Funny thing....I used to own there because I bought it cheap for trading but then re-sold it for a few bucks.....everytime I drive by on the freeway (usually on my way to vacation further south) I always say I need to go check it out but I never do.....so I cannot provide any real review on SCI.

It was a great trader via RCI and VRI when one could get 4th of July weeks.....I never had any desire to stay there as it is too close to our home.

                Tahoe Sands

Tahoe Sands is a wonderul location with a great section of beach on Tahoe's north shore, but when we stayed there a few years ago it looked like a dump due to lack of maintenance. TUG reviewers give it a 5.

But with a makeover, it could be a great resort.

I stayed there with 5 (non-timesharing) families. I thought it was fine, but it doesn't compare to a gold crown resort. There's a decent pool, a nice grassy area, good bbq area. But the rooms are very small and none have an actual bathtub - just showers. Kitchens are partial. I wouldn't call it a dump. If you want to be in SoCal, it's acceptable.

My friends who never stay in timeshares thought it was nice. They aren't spoiled like me!

Very small if you intend to pass the time in the resort. It is however, a good base for Southern CA attractions.

Stallion Springs Resort. A few miles from us up in the Tehachapi area If you play golf it might not be too bad but if not there is not much to do. We like to go up there for dinner and maaybe overnight but for a week it would get kind of old. The resales on Ebay are very cheap too. It did seem like nice rooms when we saw the timeshare we took the tour and got our gift. The girl that toured us used her own car and from what I could tell from that she wasn't selling much. There is a restaurant there that was pretty goood and there was a golf course. NOT MUCH ELSE/

I'd have to agree. We left after 5 days bored to death. When we were there with young kids expecting miniture golf and all it had was torn up areas. The movie studio they advertise is bring your own video. The pool was a mess. Mind you, this was about 10 years ago but I would never be willing to return.

The SCI: Rooms are 2-3 stars by hotel standards. They could stand for better decor, and color on the walls. The location is phenomenal. It's a short walk from the beach; borders a state park that you can walk into from the property. And, it's just off the freeway-- easy access to everything.
It has a great pool area with ping pong, a service area for food, a kids' hot tub and adult tub, shuffle board, miniature golf, playground for kids, a tennis court, basketball/volleyball court, and open space for kids to run and play.
It has a large recreation room with pool, foosball, air hockey and more. There's a small workout center, and the lobby is well-appointed and pretty large. Free movie rentals and plenty of games and amenities to check out.
They have a few banquet rooms, as it's still an operational hotel. All the ocean view units belong to owners.
It's an entirely comfortable place to stay for those who don't require Marriot quality. I stayed there last summer and two weeks later stayed in the Grand Pacific Palisades. I can't say I was disappointed in SCI at all.

Oh... one more thing about SCI...
They have a restaurant going in. It will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and there will be an after hours bar. They are building a huge balcony off the restauraunt.
All units have been upgraded with earthy decor and new furniture.
There have been a LOT of improvements.

My wife and I stayed at Silver Lakes for a night on bonus time when we were coming back home from Las Vegas. I definitely agree with your choice. I have no idea why anybody would choose to spend a week there.
