My grand parents bought a home lot there 50 years ago with the same aniticipation in mind! Today their lot is still undeveloped, just waiting for the area to blossom first.

That's the odd thing about Clear Lake. With all the population that surrounds it and all the opportunity at the lake, it never has become a major destination. It's much closer than Tahoe and even has casinos nowadays.

We have played at the local casino there, 'Robinson Rancheria' in Nice. It was one of the worst we have been to. There are many other casinos that are closer than Robinson Rancheria and much better.

I think it would help Clear Lake if the lake were actually Clear. If the Lake (especially the eastern arms) didn't stink in July and August, that would help a lot. And if people weren't covered with strings of algae after water skiing in the summer, that might also help.

I am pretty sure that was Glenn Ivy....one of the tried and true heat pitchers of the old timeshare guard.

I just can't see that being a vacation area. Yes, there's a golf course, but there are lots of golf courses in much more attractive locales. I'm not much of a golfer, but I suspect hat Silver Lakes Country is pretty nondescript as far as golf courses go.

I'm guessing the developer wound up with a bunch of condos that he couildn't sell as whole ownership, which is not surprising since this isn't exactly a prestigious locale. So, the developer got the idea of selling off the inventory as TS, and somehow was able to pull it off. Whomever ran the program to generate sucker ... , er prospects, surely earned his or her salary.

Oh ya! I forgot that detail! Been a while since I was actually in the water there!

Our first (and perhaps last) visit to Clear Lake was during a heat-wave last summer in July. The outside temp. was in the 110-114 degree range. The lake water did not provide any relief from the heat--it must have been 90 degrees plus. After returning home and laundering the swimsuits the smell of algae still lingered. It took two washings and bleach to remove the smell. Ughh!!

Yes, it was Glen Ivy. We stayed there once on bonus time on our way back from Las Vegas.

                  Worldmark at Nice, CA

For some of us who only live a short distance away, we usually camp or have a small cabin or trailer in the vicinity. I would never go there to actually vacation. It is kind of known as the Welfare capital. Not only Nice, but Clearlake and Lakeport.

But despite the issues with Clear Lake, there is still reason to visit Clear Lake - as you mention you do camp or trailer in the area. And that is still excellent wine country.

But Helendale??? There really is no reason to consider vacationing in Helendale.

                      Laguna Beach

It was nothing more than an old Holiday Inn that someone made a very poor attempt of turning into a timeshare. The rooms were too small and most only had one bathroom. The carpet should have been changed ten years ago.

At the time I was there the beach really smelled bad. So bad that one wanted to stay inside. It had the smell of dead fish and there was no way that I would go in the water. I left early.

Don't remember the name, it was a long time ago. I do know after you got into town you turned left and it was on the right. You parked downstairs in an old dark place that made one feel unsafe.

It does not sound like any Laguna Beach timeshare I know about. If you are talking about the Laguna Surf, a former Glen Ivy project, there are people that would give a lot to get an ocean view unit there. And I have been to Laguna beach hundreds of times and have never felt 'unsafe'.

It was so long ago it may have been replaced by a better co. by now.
I do remember in the underground parking area you had to stop you car, unlock a chain link fence, pull in and lock it back.
