What are the worst California timeshares?

My vote for worst Ca timeshare is probably the Aquamarine Villas in Oceanside. The place is a remodled Motel 6, sits right next to the train tracks and I really mean RIGHT NEXT TO THE TRACKS, so you get shaken out of bed when a train goes by blowing its horn, there are very limited ocean views, the rooms and decour are dated to say the least the management company is run by jack asses, and the HOA are group of carping losers that spend more time battling each other than trying to make the resort nicer.

Inn at Silver Lakes is no surprise. Blue Whale is a surprise to me especially since they remodeled the place.

I remember when Blue Whale weeks were quite the hot item among TUGgers. A summer week at Blue Whale was almost unsurpassed for trade power.

I am surprised that The Plaza Resort & Spa and the Vista Mirage in Palm Springs is on the list. We have stayed in both on bonus time and both were quite OK. It has been awhile since we have done that as we have been staying at the Hyatt Regency Suites in downtown Palm Springs for our last several visits.

And 2 out of 3 of the Cape Cod MA properties are very nice as well.

And another great II trader (and a nice resort to visit) Foxrun.

I wonder if some properties are on the list because they get TOO MANY of them???? or just off season weeks????

Since they refurbished the resort if one could get a summer week there then they should use it or rent it. The neighborhood is nice and the beach is fantastic out front. I think it is a challenge to get the summer weeks these days.

I think they have an off season floating week which would not be as good and perhaps that is why it is on the reject list. I have seen them not get any bids on ebay before.

It appears to me that most, if not all, of the "surprising" resorts on the list have offseason periods where weeks likely have little to no value. I do note, though, several resorts like that where they will accept peak season weeks. I suspect that whoever is running the program hasn't had enough experience (or motivation to update things) to recognize the seasonality at some of the completely banned resorts.

Blue Whale still trades extremely well, and although my studio MF are not cheap, they have not increased much lately and are not out of line with others that I own.

I haven't gone through the list but I own Island Park Village as well.

I hasten to add that I haven't stayed at either of these timeshares, so my criteria is different - a trader versus a "stayer".

The last time I stayed there, they had $29 mattresses & cockroaches to provide you with turndown service. The poolside setting...think of a seedy motel from the 70's. The only thing the RCI resort description could say is "quaint." Translation: it's a dive.

As a timeshare property it was an absolute money pit with atrocious HOA management or, should I say, mismanagement. I was finally able to get my parents out from under this albatross.

There are so many other resorts & accomodations in the Palm Springs area that no one should ever have the privilege of staying there. If they had the last rooms available in Palm Springs, I'd sleep in the car. I actually saw a unit available for exchange on RCI the other day...stay far away...far, far, far away.

They have Foxrun in Tennessee! Maybe that is part of their problem! I sold one of our summer weeks for $2,200. My buyer must have been crazy to buy that!

Island Park Village is a resort I have been considering for a purchase, and not to trade but to stay. We were there many years ago and loved it there, but we love Yellowstone.

Twin Rivers is there, too. I just sold a week 1, prime ski, two bedroom for $2,000. We had that one for years and bought a week 12 instead. We paid almost $1,000 for the week we bought. Just because they cannot get rid of those 12 off-season weeks doesn't mean that the others wouldn't sell.

The economy is affecting timeshares in a big way. You can tell by the low prices on eBay. I bought a two-week package at Foxrun for summer, weeks 32 and 33, and we paid $1.00 for it. I bid the $1.00 about 15 seconds before the auction's close and was sure someone would bid $2.00. Our total cost was actually extremely low because I reimbursed maintenance fees for this year at last year's price, so that saved $80. Closing costs were reasonable, too, at $399. Transfer fee: $75.

I can sell that for $2,000, I would bet. But I won't.
