I have lived off and on for many years in the SF Bay area. We have owned 3 homes there. We have lived in Los Gatos, Cupertino, San Jose, Livermore, and have been living temporarily in Sunnyvale for the past 10 months.
We often go to the Giant's games; We only go to the day games as it is too cold for us at night. We have done that and nearly froze to death in July. It is my favorite ballpark and I have been to many. We like the A's but hate the stadium and the area. Hopefully they will move. If they could move to San Jose, they would be sold out every game. Unfortunately the Giants have a lock on San Jose because of their minor league team, the San Jose Giants. I heard recently that the A's may move to Fremont.
Lived in California my entire 55 years. Grew up in Santa Clara, first home bought in San Jose and last 18 years we've been in Los Altos. I don't know of anywhere else where the weather is as good as in the South Bay? Easy drive to the beach, mountains, rivers, and lakes. Easy access to 3 airports and not too far from the City by the Bay.
Luckily for us we've had a house for a long time. My only two gripes would be traffic which I avoid and housing costs.

Housing costs really don't matter if you already own a home there. As a good friend of mine says, "the high cost of housing keeps the riff raff out". My wife and I find driving around the Metro San Jose area to be relatively very easy compared to other large metro areas plus there is fairly decent public transportation. You are right about the airports. We use both SFO and SJC. It takes us about 20 minutes to SJC and about 30 minutes to SFO.
