Welk Platinum Points Reservations @ San Diego

We are considering buying 480,000 Welk Platinum Points on the resale market. The booking window is 12 months for regular members, but 15 months for Premier Members (540,000 points or more). So all members with more than 540,000 points can book prime weeks ahead of us.

My question is if we want to book prime July weeks at the 12 month window, will we have a high probability of success? Are there any WPP members who have experience with booking prime July weeks or other prime weeks such as holidays.

I regret that I cannot answer your question. However, if you do have difficulty booking at the 12 month window, is this something that you can additional points to later to achieve the Premiere status?

Well that would be the logical solution except that the developer has blocked that approach. We can purchase additional points in the resale market, but Welk will not allow us combine the two accounts into one. The developer will only combine resale market accounts if we purchase additional points (which of course we would not need) from them at the inflated developer price. They have gone to great lengths to place as many roadblocks to the resale market as possible.

Yes, floating weeks in Welk Villas on the Green (VOG) are available. However, reservations are limited to bookings within VOG. Platinum points allow you to reserve time in all of the Welk properties; Welk Mountain Villas, Welk Resort Villas, Welk VOG, Welk Cabo, Welk Palm Springs, and Welk Branson. These are direct owner reservations which means you will bypass the whole exchange process with all of it's uncertainty and also the exchange costs. You book as owners up to 12 months in advance, which means you get first choice of time to reserve. You can also reserve the unit size that fits your needs. Perhaps a small 1 BR for one stay and a 2 BR for another, lots of flexibility. Points also allow you to book 2-6 day intervals, not just full weeks. For exchanging, you have the flexibility of trading a 1 BR or 2 BR unit depending on what you want in return. If flexibility is important to an owner, points are the way to go.

Gotcha! I also own a points/mini system and I love it. I do not have the answer to your question-but wish you well in securing what works for you.
