We spent last week in unit 611 at Villa L'Auberge. We asked for a unit without steps and we got one of the 3 units that do not have steps. What was even better is that those 3 units are top floor units in the building closest to the Ocean.
There is a large flat screen TV on an articulating arm bracket that allows you to change the angle of the TV. That's important because its mounted on an angled part of the wall in #611 over the fireplace so it doesn't face the sofa. The kitchen was well-stocked and included a coffee grinder. Each unit has a decent sized balcony facing the Pacific which is about 300 yards away.
There is a large soaking tub in the bathroom and a large vanity. All of the fixtures are high end and seem new.
There is a king bed and a good sized closet in the bedroom. Half of the closet has room for hanging clothes, the other half has drawers and shelves. There are also drawers in the tv stand where there is a small flat screen tv.
Exchangers have access to the hotel amenities such as the pool, hot tub and workout room. The gym was not impressive. The pool area is nice and staffed with waiters that are happy to get you towels, move and set up an umbrella and bring you food and drinks. We thought the menu prices at the pool were a bit high, even in a town full of expensive places to eat and drink.
We went out to eat almost every night. The best bar food, sandwiches and wings, was at Jimmie O's. Don't ask for spicy food there unless you like it fiery (which I do) because they are happy to oblige with the heat.
The best happy hour apps were at Sbicca, Il Fornaio and Jake's. Sbicca has half price crab cakes, bacon wrapped shrimp, lobster Mac and cheese and lots more all for around $6. At Il Fornaio, they have $6 pizzas that would be more than a meal for most people. The macadamia panko crusted calamari at Jake's was excellent.
We had dinner at Jake's, Pacifica and Kitchen 1540 and they were all very good and a bit pricey.
The weather was great until Thursday and then we got June Gloomed for the rest of the week. Our only outing of the week was the San Diego Zoo and we got lucky and happened to go on the nicest day of the week. The zoo is a great place to spend the day.
