  • What area in San Diego?

We are going to San Diego in July. I haven't had any luck with my OGS in RCI, so I am going to book a Holiday Inn using my HIVC points. Can someone please tell me the best area (neighborhood) to stay in? I can choose Gaslamp, Downtown, Old Town, Mission Valley, Bayside, Sea World, National City, Chula Vista, Mission Bay.
We want to do all the tourist things and also see a Padres game.
We can rent a car if need be, or take public transportation if that is easier.
We don't need anything fancy as we don't plan on being in the room much of the time.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Jacki, do you own at Sand Pebbles? I recently learned that owners can book Bonus Time, about 2 or 3 weeks or so ahead. I'm not sure how often they turn up with summer units but it's worth a try if you have a cancelable reservation. They had availability for all of March. Solana Beach is out 10 minutes closer to San Diego than Carlsbad where I am this week. If you don't own there let me know and I will check for you when the time comes.

Of those areas I would choose:

      Gaslamp
Downtown, depending on where it is
Old Town, this is a maybe. I've read from folks who stay there that it's very convenient, but not sure if I'd want to stay there.
      Bayside, don't know this area
      Sea World
      Mission Bay

My main objective when staying in San Diego is to be near the water. That said on our next trip we're staying at the WorldMark San Diego Balboa Park, which is definitely not near the water.

      I would remove:
Mission Valley (hotel row as I like to call it)
      National City
      Chula Vista
      Luanne

          Agree with
          Glitter.

I also have a late deposit two bedroom you can have, just pay exchange fee in II $174. It is only good 60 days out but if what you are doing can be canceled, it could work for you.

Please PM me your dates And I will stake a look with CMV.

Definitely remove Chula Vista...too far (from San Diego) too close (to TJ)

Bayside appears to be kinda near Point Loma and this Marina : http://www.pointlomamarina.com/ plus it was remodeled recently.

Thanks. I do own at Sand Pebbles and funny, I had a July reservation and banked it in RCI 2 years ago! I want to be in the city, though, as I'm not much of a beach person. We will go there one day to put our feet in the Pacific just to say we did.
My main objective would be to be close to the tourist attractions.
We are also going up to San Francisco for 2 of the days.

I have had an OGS in RCI but nothing has turned up. In II I've only seen Welk. SFX told me not to even bother putting in a search.
Thank goodness we will be there after Comic Con!!

We lived in San Diego for 25 years and now live just an hour away. We have owned a TS at Gaslamp Plaza Suites for 25 years and frequently stay there on bonus time to play tourist. We always go to the Padres games when they are in town.

Having said that, I would choose the Gaslamp area as you can walk to the Padres game, and several other attractions. There is a wide array of restaurants. FYI, Gaslamp area is in downtown San Diego.

I would not stay in Mission Valley, National City, nor Chula Vista.

Thanks. There hasn't been any availability for Gaslamp but I do have an ongoing search in.

It looks like Worldmark has inventory available this July. Consecutive days in a studio at Inn at the Park and with full week or consecutive days available in a studio at the Balboa Park resort.

Is this REALLY in the Pacific NW forum? Was there some massive earth movement I'm not aware of?
