We have owned there for several years but have never visited, and use the week for trading only.
We were staying in San Diego last week, so rented a car and drove up.
The resort is small (4 buildings) and on a main road. The strip was hopping since it was race season at Del Mar, less than a mile away.
We were given a day use key, giving us access to the game rooms (one with ping pong and foosball, and one with a pool table), the restrooms, and the laundry room (3 coin operated washers, 3 dryers). The key also unlocked the gate to beach access.
Although the resort is technically 1/2 block to the Pacific Ocean beach, access is via 120 steps down a steep bluff. I have a bad knee and could not do that many stairs, so we drove approx. 1 mile to the public beach which was just beautiful. There was another beach about 3/4 miles the other way.
We spend the rest of the afternoon at the pool area, The pool was small, and there were nice lounge chairs and tables with umbrellas surrounding. The hot tub was really hot with strong jets.
It seemed as though most of the people around the pool were owners. Several owned more than one week. Some came from Arizona each year to get out of the hot weather. One couple lived 1/2 hour away but come several times a week to use the facilities, and rent out their owned weeks.
The landscaping was beautiful around the pool and the walkways. The manager on duty was very friendly and helpful, giving us directions to the beach.
There is a resale office on site, and Claire, the agent, has weeks for sale there and at other resorts advertised (we bought from her - she is very reputable). She lends out beach chairs and boogie boards to the guests. She also hosts a hot dog lunch around the pool on Mondays.
We did not get in to see a unit, however the owners there told me the studios have Murphy beds and full kitchens. There are also 1 and 2 BR's. Some units had balconies with table and chairs. Some of the 2BRs are on one level, and some are townhouses. All units were recently remodeled.
A potential drawback is that there is no air conditioning in any of the units. There was a nice breeze when we were there, but even though they supply fans and have ceiling fans, on a hot day this could be problematic.
There are no vending machines to get a drink or small snack, but there is a convenience store on the block, just past the 2 hotels next to the resort. Directly adjacent to the resort is a strip mall with a California Pizza Kitchen, a Mexican restaurant and an Italian restaurant. Just beyond there is a coffee shop.
I was very happy to see that the resort is in excellent condition despite the fact that our maintenance fees are very low. They are doing a great job there managing the place. I will make sure to actually use our week there in the future.
