The lines were outrageous! I was told August is the busiest month. We were there 4 years ago and had a blast. This year was unbearable. From 10 to 11:30 it was fine, and from 6:30 to 8pm the lines did die down. But the middle of the day was really bad. We waited over an hour for a 2 minute ride at one point during the day.

If you plan to go there, take the kids to one (or both) of the two water play areas, watch a few shows, and spend time in the huge playground equipment from 11:30 to 6pm. Oh, and get lunch at 11:30. If you wait until noon, those lines will be very long also.

Yikes.....I hate long lines....especially at Legoland. Thanks for the heads up. We ended up not going this summer when at GPP even though we got two- day passes for the family from the HGVC/Marbrisa tour. We will be going Christmas/New Years week. The nice thing about staying at GPP is that if it gets bad....just go back to the resort in the middle of the day and return to Legoland later when the crowds have died down. Plus the parking is better at GPP.

      Edye:
thanks for the info. We'll be at GPP the last week of September and plan to take our 3 1/2 yr old to Legoland. It'll be our first time there.

      4ARedOctober:
Were you invited to tour HGVC Marbrisa or did you just find the sales office in the Carslbad area?

I'm headed there the first week of September. Hopefully, summer vacations will be winding down and the crowds will be thinner.

We were staying at the Southern California Beach Club and Grand Pacific Palisades which are both Grand Pacific Resorts which invite all qualified customers at their resorts to tour the Marbrisa.

It ought to be MUCH better after August. Apparently August is the busiest month there. I would think September would be a good month to go.

I went in August to Legoland 2 years ago with 2 ten year old boys. I didnt much care for it, maybe if the lines weren't so long my opinion would have been different. My wife met her mother at the horse races, and then went to Jake's in Del Mar. I can remember waiting over an hour for some big bike ride that ended up taking less than 5 minutes. At about 5 pm the boys wanted to go. Sea World although being crowded has never been that annoying to me.

Any child under the age of eight (8) will love Legoland. This park is for the young one. However, the adults are going to enjoy seeing New York City, Washington, DC and some other major US cities made out of Legos.

Frantic rush to get amusement parks in before school starts

I just got back from Newport Beach on Saturday. Traffic on the freeways this last week was very bad. Friends all got caught in bumper to bumper traffic every afternoon. I decided to take the train and it was way more relaxing. My first time on a train in Southern California in the last 25 years.

Everyone I know is in a frantic rush to get all the last amusement park and summer activities in before school starts. Many So. cal schools start about August 29th or 30th.

This was the first time we stayed in SoCal during the summer. Beaches and amusement parks were crowded. Thinking about avoiding So Cal in the summer for a few years.

Come back in October if you want to go to a beach town. We love to go to Laguna Beach because the days are still warm enough and it is not crowded. March and October are our favorite months.

Since we live here, we can always find a good day during any month of the year but coming from out of town for a week's vacation, I would not come during the rainy season. Google for the average rainfall in California but it makes a big difference what part of California you want to visit and lately, the weather doesn't make any sense so it is hard to predict anymore.

Legoland was absolutely packed today...lines for every ride were minimum of one hour most of the day. Luckily we had two day passes and two weeks in Carlsbad so we can go on rides later. We did not even go on a ride until around 5 p.m. and the park closed at 7 p.m. Several employees we spoke with said today was the busiest day of the year...come back early next year and it will be dead.

We went to most everything that did not have a line and had a blast. My DD and DS had a great time building, testing and racing lego race cars. And I went with DD to the robots event which we made a reservation for....we used computers to program lego robots to do several missions to/on 'mars'.

The real bonus was LegoLand was offering a free day pass to be used on or before April 1 2007 to anyone who went before 12/31. We may get annual passes since our DS is only 3 ys going on 4 and absolutely loved the place.

We went on Monday the 18th and there were hardly any lines, at most the wait was 15 minutes, with most being 5 minutes. We went again on Thursday the 21st and big difference. Lots of people and long lines. We ended up leaving early.

We were in WDW about four years ago and were told that the last couple of days of the year are the most busy of the entire year. New years eve is historically the single most busy.

                            So beware

I hope so, I will be there in February and I really hate long lines.
