I took my kids to Legoland last July and the park was extremely overcrowded so we spent most of the afternoon at the water tower. Felt more like I was at a waterpark than a amusement park. I did see lots of people (probably locals) avoiding the food lines by using the grass area outside the park and near the parking lot to eat meals they packed in ice chests.

Just wondering whether Dec/Jan would be a good time for Lego Land and SoCal. That's when we get our Summer holidays and the kids have 8wks off so I'd like to book a U.S. West coast holiday this time if I can get the exchanges.
Also, is GPP the best place to stay for Legoland and is the availability generally good in those months?
Thanks!Syd

I just went to Four seasons avaria for 2 weeks. Dec 9-23rd. Only 3 miles from Legoland. Seaworld, and legoland, were dead. It was absolutely great!! the first week, we could stay on most rides and keep riding because nobody was in line. The 2nd week weekdays were still good, but more4 people.

Jan/Dec should be a great time for all the attractions in So. Cal. Just avoid Christmas to New Years. And there should be good availability for most of the resorts including GPP for both of those months. Plan well ahead if you want the week between Christmas and New Years. Let me know if you need any help seeing availability for GPR resorts."If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."

We went to LegoLand on Thursday January 4th hoping to beat the holiday crowds. LegoLand is dark (closed) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during non-vacation periods in the slower season.
Well they closed on Tues Jan 2 and Wed Jan 3 2007 even though many of the schools in So. Cal. changed their vacation schedule to include the first week in Jan 2007. I guess management did not keep up with what is happening in their local market or didn't really care. Longer waits for more customers, more revenue, but less expense with less staffing.
The park was not even close to being as crowded as it was last week...but we heard from park employees that LL was only expecting 3,000 people and 7,000 showed up. So LL only staffed for 3,000 resulting in unacceptable waits for some rides which were about 45 minutes. Several of the rides were shut down as well which made it more crowded on the open rides. Some rides were fine in terms of an acceptable wait and the park was generally less crowded.
It should really be much better after this week after vacations are over. The regular non-holiday hours at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m."If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."

We returned to LegoLand to use the free pass we got from the park during Christmastime.
End of March was not very crowded and the park was also adequately staffed so there were few lines and some rides with no lines in the early morning and later afternoon."If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."
