  • Nob Hill Inn vs. Club Donatello

Help! I have a dilemma.....I have a choice of these two timeshares in SF for next summer. I will be traveling with my 10 year old son. I was able to pull the NHI w/ my VRI internal trading. I know that Nob Hill Inn is a converted mansion...and the interior is more B&B-ish. Both units would be "studio units": with the Nob Hill Inn unit being the "Nob Hill Suite" (larger of the "hotel type" suites at 320 square feet). The unit at Donatello is listed as "hotel" w/ occupancy 3/2. According to the RCI info, this unit is 380 square feet. Neither resort has kitchen facilities; tho I believe Donatello may have a very small mini fridge and possibly a microwave? I realize that both are more "adult oriented"...but hey, I've been hoping to take my youngest to SF for years...and now I've finally been able to get an exchange.

One other thing to consider....I've already booked Nob Hill Inn (earlier this month)...so if I switch, I lose the exchange fee (discounted rate of $129). Is the Club Donatello worth the loss of that fee? Or, should I be satisfied w/ the Nob Hill Inn?

    They are five blocks apart.

Have no experience with Nob Hill Inn but we stayed and enjoyed Donatello.

I don't think there is enough of a difference to pay a cancellation fee to change.

There is a wet bar/mini-fridge/microwave but only in the SVC section 2/2. The "Club" section does not have any mini kitchen and they are the 3/2.

Edited to add that I spotted some Worldmark SF for summer this morning. They claim to have "mini" kitchens:
    Unit Amenities
    · High-speed Internet
    · Mini-fridge
    · Microwave
    · Coffee maker
    · Air conditioning
    · Cable TV
    · VCR/DVD player
    · Stereo with CD player
    · Telephone
    · Hairdryer
    · Iron and ironing board

Thanks for the clarification, Lawren. The unit we would have booked was the regular "Club room"....so no ammenities (other than the hotel style room). I decided to stick w/ Nob Hill Inn for now....if something else pops up, I can always book it and cancel NH. It would definitely have to be something w/ a kitchen (or mini kitchen)...and a bit more room.....in order for me to justify losing the exchange fee for Nob Hill.
I've been checking quite often for availability....haven't seen the Worldmark show up yet. (But maybe my SoCal week isn't strong enough to pull it).
No matter what happens....I will be in San Francisco next summer!

        Hi DEB,

DH and I just returned yesterday after a fabulous week at Nob Hill Inn. We were given an upgrade from a 1Bd w/kitchen to a 2Bd w/kitchen. We hadn't even asked for an upgrade - we are owners but this was our first visit to Nob Hill Inn. Perhaps you can upgrade to a unit with a kitchen - my understanding is that there are 6 units out of about 20 that have cooking facilities.

The kitchen was certainly adequate with a small refrigerator, small dishwasher, microwave, 2 burner cooking surface - however no regular oven. With only 2 people and the huge 2 Bd/2Ba suite (# 21 - reviewed previously on TUG Reviews) we felt that we had luxurious accomodations with the best, most welcoming service from Mernaz (manager) and the front-desk butlers. Period decor, reburbished antiques, decorative porcelain and brass bathroom fixtures, chandeliers lighting hanging from plaster ceiling rosettes, mirrored internal doors, etched glass even on the vintage elevator, very clean and quiet rooms overlooking Pine Street and 1 block from Nob Hill pinnacle with a magnificent cathedral and fine hotels - great view from Top of the Mark.

All 3 cable-car lines were within a couple of blocks. The BART a half mile away near Union Square. Most of the timeshares in SF are in the same general 3-6 block area - but only Nob Hill Inn has the ambiance of a fine flat in Europe.

Nob Hill has wireless internet - I was able to connect from our unit. They also have a fax machine where I was able to print out next day boarding passes.

Your youngest will love San Franciso no matter where you stay. But for me, the turn-of-the-century ambiance of Nob Hill Inn added a huge bonus to my stay.... Noelle
