I'm pretty sure I stayed there a few years ago with my mom. It was nice, not spectacular. It's a little outside the town of Sonoma, not walking distance. You are probably better keeping the Worldmark in Windsor, you'd definitely have more room there. What was nice about the Lodge is that there is a spa on site (if you're into that ).

I drove thru Nappa Valley today and I am going to Monterey on Thursday. I have an educational conference there.

I vote for Monterey as I like it better than Nappa Valley. There is more to do and the scenery is better. Of course, if you are a wine and food freak, Napa is the place to be. I just think Monterey is a better location.

Ok, if you go to the Napa / Sonoma valley, you just HAVE to watch the movie "Sideways" first (if you haven't already seen it).

        It is a hoot!

I LOVED that movie. Great wine stuff aside, it had the funniest sex scene ever. Probably shouldn't have been watching it with teenagers, though

Not that it makes a LOT of difference, but "Sideways" was shot in the Santa Barbara wine area.

Today I drove from Davis California thur Nappa, Sonoma, and into Santa Rosa. It was a great drive and there were TONS of vineyards, manisons, bed and breakfasts, and small quaint restaurants.

I am now in Heraldsburg and I have never even heard of this place. I decided to crash for the night here and the downtown shops and restaurants are wonderful. Tomorrow I am off to explore the coast and drive south to San Francisco.

I still prefer Monterey, but if you like wine tours, small town shope, etc. Nappa is a cool area.

When will you be in San Francisco? Maybe we can meet up and get something to eat, or have a drink.

If you go alone with your DH, I suggest the wine country too. Since you have seen the movie "Sideways", you have seen how beautiful the wine country is when you stay on the little secondary roads. We have never done it yet but the view alone makes me want to do this too. We have been to several wineries but always when we were driving up to somewhere else so didn't go out of our way.

Take the kids to Carmel or Monterey and the California coast as they will prefer that. California has really a lot to offer in sight-seeing as well as the National Parks.

Steamboat Bill, have a wonderful time in California. I don't really know what state you are from. Enjoy!

PS. I now read that you are from Florida so you have no mountains at all but we have plenty of them.

Today I started in Santa Rosa for a little business and took Hwy 1 South.

I went to Bodega Bay and then into Muir Woods.

Let me tell everyone now....Muir Woods is only 30 minutes from the Golden Gate Bride and is one of the MOST beautiful areas in the entore WORLD I have ever been to and I have traveled a lot. The 200 foot redwood treas and creak, moss, was stunning.

I then went south thru San Fran and I am now staying for the night in Pacifica on the beach.

I would have met you for dinner as I stopped for dinner at some place called "??? Hawaiian BBQ" that was just a fast food place that was pretty good.

I have a conference in Monterey on Friday and Saturday and take a red-eye flight home via Oakland.

I will be back in San Fran at the "W" hotel in two weeks, if you want to meet. Just send me a PM.

I have met with BocaBum99 a few times in Boca Raton.

I tried the Hawaiian BBQ yesterday as I wanted a simple dinner. It was pretty good!

I will be in downtown San Fran Nov 29 - Dec 2.

I have been at the Monterey Marriott for the past three days and this is an awesome place. I really liked the wharf, aquarium, and visiting Carmel. It seems every restaurant has "Award Winning" clam chowder and gives free smaples. Just like Costco, I tried a dozen free samples...yummy!
