What are some recommendations on timeshares for the southern california coast and San Diego area? Will probably put in a search with SFX and maybe with II or RCI.

Too far away with too much traffic. I would not recommend it.

Eric,
I have been in early-March and had 80s. Late March and had gray and cold. I don't know how many times I washed our jeans that year. Too cold for shorts. This was in Laguna. FWIW I will NEVER go back Presidents week.
You might want to seriously consider Lawrence Welk Resort Escondido. 30 miles from San Diego and all that has to offer. Not far from Legoland, Seaworld, San Diego zoo, et al.
Escondido is inland so would be warmer. It is a highly rated resort with a lot for families to do, large 2bdrms as well. RCI trade. You might be too late for March 2008. I don't see any. Maybe some one can search past then as I can't.
There is a Thanksgiving week 2007 sitting on-line.
Just my two cents.Lawren

I suggest you check out this thread and then ask any specific questions you may have.
How would you rank the California Coastal Resorts II

We stayed at Lawrence Welk in Escondido with our toddler during mid-March 2006. The weather during the week had highs in the low to mid-60s and a couple days low 70s. One day for about 40 minutes there was a freak hail storm with pellets the size of nickles coming down -- it occurred on our arrival day and I recall thinking I left the midwest for this? Most of the days were sunny, though, so folks lounged around the new pool, slide and water fountain area at Lawrence Welk. The location was great for Legoland, which I think is the best park for the todder to your grandson's age -- practically everything is designed with them in mind. That was our first visit to Legoland and already DH and I agree that the next time we head for the SD area, Legoland would be on the top of our list.

It is located right next to and is surrounded by the Terra Lago Golf Course in case you are interested, and the Fantasy Springs Casino is just a few blocks away if you need some adult entertainment.
There is a Knotts Soak City (water park) not too far away, (check for season dates), and our daughter enjoyed our day spent taking the tram up to the top and then hiking around.
It is about 10 degrees warmer in Indio than where we are and we are warmer than Escondido all of the time. We own at Grand Pacific Palisades and have found that it is almost too cold even at the end of May to swim in the pools, let alone the ocean so I can only imagine that March would be even colder.
For Palm Springs, I would suggest Palm Canyon Resort. We own there too and our daughter has a great time there too. The pool has slides, poolside dining and the adults really love the poolside bar. The recreation room is much smaller and they hold fewer activities, but it was hard getting my daughter to leave the slides anyway. The rooms are older, (WM Indio is pretty new with portions still under construction but not obtrusive.), but if you have kids in Palm Springs....it is the place to be.
Have a great trip.

Have you found something yet?
I would recommend Escondito or Ramona in March with your grandson. The resorts there have more to offer a child & the weather will probably be warmer. The drive to visit Disney or Legoland is not bad & you could do a trip to the coast pretty easily if the weather was co-operative. This is all I see there today on II (not Spring break but close)
Villas on the Greens at the Welk Resort • VLW
Escondido , CA , USA
Resort Details Mar 07 2008 - Mar 14 2008 1 Bedroom(s): 4 privately. 1 4 4 Kitchen
but there is usually several choices sitting online for off season times. A request could probably net you a Spring Break week if you put it in now.
