Hi, Our son is at 29 Palms for the next 4 years,(except when he will be over there!). Looking for someplace to stay when we visit. Don't need a Marriott, never spent much time in Ca. so have no expierence. Some thing he could use on an occasional weekend would be good. Better off renting? Thanks in Advance 14th Med

I will respectfully suggest Desert Breezes. The resort is small & homey. The studio units are roomy with king bed & queen sofa bed. Peaceful views. Quiet yet family friendly. Located in Palm Desert but close to good resaurants & the sights. There are 3 very nice pools and great tennis courts. Good discounts on golf. Best of all is the Bonus time and Breezes time that allows owners to book single nights 60 days in advance or full weeks at 12 months out in addition to their owned week for essentially the cost of MF. This allows for extra space for family & friends or just additional time during the year without additional ownership. It doesn't have all the bells & whistles but the MF are reasonable. We love it there & prefer it to the fancier name brand resorts. There is an in-house resales desk. I bought my 1 bedroom on e-bay.

The Palm Springs area, although just on the other side of the mountains, is not especially close to 29 Palms by car, since you have to drive around the mountains, as there is no direct road through Joshua Tree NP. So my recommendation would be finding a TS closer to Palm Springs itself than Palm Desert or Indio, since the latter two locations could add as much as another half hour to your drive to 29 Palms.
