  • Sunterra Oasis Resort - Palm Springs

    OK Gang,
    Looking for any helpful info.
My wife and I will be travelling to Palm Springs for one week in Mid October of 2007, staying at the Sunterra Oasis Resort, 4190 E Palm Canyon Drive. Mid 50's, no kids.

Would appreciate any info on the resort, good or bad........we are booked so will have to take what ever it is.

Will plan on playing golf at least three times, so any course info would be helpful.

Restaurant tips always a plus.........we enjoy all kinds of good food, except sushi.

Thigs to do and see in the area are appreciated also. Thanks to all in advance.

We stayed at the Oasis for a week last Apr and loved it. It is an older resort but well maintained. The grounds are beautiful with lots of trees plants and flowers and small pools scattered throughout the resort including an adults only pool. Most units even have their own garage with bicycles if you wish to use them. You even have your own small back yard with a gas grill. The only negative is if you get a unit backing on to the main road it can be noisy but it really didn't bother us. As for golf there are so many courses in the area it's hard to recommend just a few. We had friends staying at the Palm Desert Resort which is a area with full ownership condos so we played that course twice. When we were in Palm Springs before we used Stand by Golf for next day bookings and there are a lot of websites where you can check for good prices. The same with restaurants, there are so many good ones. Hope this helps.

        Hi Rich
We spent New Years week at our resort in Palm Desert. They had discount rates at Woodhaven Country Club so hubby played there. Rate was $59 weekdays & $69 Fri & Sat. They were offering discounted rates to the general public for about $25 more. I noticed they had an offer in the local paper for a temporary membership for a week, too. Maybe Oasis will have some sort of agreement with 1 or 2 of the local courses. You might want to call & ask.
We always eat at least once at Uptown Cafe on Vista Chino. They usually have a 2 for 1 entree offer and the food & service are excellent. We've eaten at Macario's in Indio, a very authentic Mexican restaurant recommended by one of the gardeners. Also ate at Las Casuelas downtown. Regular Tex-Mex food & very good service. Reasonable prices & live entertainment in the bar. Also has patio dining to enjoy the street faire or just people watch. Be sure to go to the Thursday night street faire. It is always fun, sort of a party atmosphere with music & lots of booths. Every Thursday night 6pm to about 11pm. We went to the Air Museum this time. Very well done. The Follies is a great show but you'll have to check their schedule since they are open only during prime season. Web site is www.psfollies.com. I hit the outlets in Cabazon on a previous visit, not much of a shopper. It would take several trips to cover the entire complex. It is huge & has every name brand you can think of. The El Paseo shopping area is full of top name shops & art galleries. Speaking of galleries, the Palm Springs Art Museum is really 1st class & is free on Thursday nights after 4pm. We've never done the tram ride. It's usually closed when we are there. Never made it to the casinos either but other folks seem to like them.
There are several tour companies that do driving tours of the area or even into Hollywood. There are usually several local events every weekend so just check the local paper when you get there. We attended the Golf Cart Parade and a local outdoor art festival the week we were there. You'll have a great time, I'm sure. Enjoy!
        Julie

I have to agree with Las Casuelas. The food is very good and I think they have more than one location. Don't forget the market on Sat and Sun at the College of the Desert. We always go at least once when we're in Palm Springs. Also there is a new shopping and entertainment complex in Palm Desert called The River with several outdoor restaurants.
