  • Is October A Decent Month To Go To Palm Springs?

I'm thinking about going to Westin Mission Hills, Rancho Mirage in October. I just took a peek at Weather.com, and the average temperature for October is 90. Yikes!!! November's average is 78.

Has anyone been there, this time of year? We would be interested in playing golf, as well some sight seeing. Not sure if it would just be too hot for us to enjoy ourselves.

September can be one of the hottest months in Palm Springs due to the Santa Ana winds. The later in October you go the better IMHO.

OK, thank you!! I might have to re-think this, and see if there is another month that would work for our schedule.

        Hey Angela,

There is a reason all those winter Marriott weeks in Palm Springs/Rancho Mirage are platinum I visit often as my Mother lives in the area. Before I managed the Carlsbad exchange-I was going to go out there next week. It's supposed to be 90+ and it's only March, however we are having a nice little warm spell right now.

I agree with John, shoot for very late October or beyond. I live in the desert (high desert, PS is low desert) but even here it doesn't cool down until around Halloween. I think it just takes a while for the asphalt and concrete to stop radiating heat

        Are you thinking 2007?

Yes.....I was thinking this October.....I think that I will put off Palm Springs until we can go during the winter months. Maybe we can go 'leaf peeping' somewhere, instead.

And yes, there's always a good reason weeks are 'platinum.'

We live just an hour away from Palm Springs and we frequently visit there for 3 or 4 days at a time. Unlike most of the other opinions, we like October which is one of our favorite months to visit Palm Springs. September can be very hot but October has always been great.

Most Palm Springs area golf courses are closed for overseeding at some period in October.

Try to find a website that gives the schedule for overseeding. They are sometimes on cart path only for a couple of weeks or more after it is completed. We ran into this in late Oct early Nov in the Pheonix area. Some courses were done earlier than others and a couple we wanted to play were not in great shape yet.

Thanks Lynn....I will look into it. The main reason that my DH would go to Palm springs would be for the golf. He would kill me if we got there, and he couldn't play on the courses of his choice.

We are not golfers so the golf courses are a non-issue for us. However, I believe that we saw people playing the course behind the Spa timeshare in October. We were staying in a unit overlooking the golf course.
