My daughter and her husband want to go to the California wine country. While my wife and I keep the kids. They are looking at Labor Day week. How is the weather this time of the year? What are the resorts in the area and the changes of getting something this year? Or any other recommendations on where to stay?

Either one at this point in time. Which Airport is the preferred on to fly into? They will be flying out of Nashville, TN.

Hmmm, since we drive (we're only about an hour) I'm thinking about which airport. They could go into San Francisco, Oakland or Sacramento (being the last choice).
What type of place are they looking for? We've stayed at some nice B&Bs in both the Sonoma and Napa areas. A couple I'd recommend:
1. Madrona Manor - Healdsburg (Sonoma valley)
Sonoma Hotels-Healdsburg Lodging-Sonoma Valley Hotels-Sonoma Winery Hotel
2. Brookside - Napa. This one is only three rooms, run by a husband/wife and is actually their home. We stayed there last summer on a recommendation. The master bedroom where dh and I stayed is wonderful.

3. The Elms - Calistoga (Napa Valley)

4. Sonoma Mission Inn - Sonoma. I've never stayed here but I've heard it's wonderful (and pricey).

I would choose Oakland over SFO anyday. Even San Jose or Sacramento are easier to get in & out of & car rental pick-up is much easier. If they are staying in a B&B they might consider spending a couple of nights in San Francisco then go on to wine country. I'm partial to Healdsburg or St. Helena. Here's the website I use for B&Bs:California Bed and Breakfasts and Country Inns -- BBOnline... Bed & Breakfast Inns ONLINE
As far as timeshares, there is Riverpoint in Napa & a new one called Bella Vista or something like that. Worldmark has them in Windsor & Clear Lake both nice but not convienent from what I've read. A B&B might be better but they can be pretty pricey especially during holidays & harvesting season. Weather will be quite warm but the scenery is awsome in late summer/earlt fall. Great time to visit the area. The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all or cannot do so well for themselves”- Lincoln

Eric,
TPI has availability at Riverpointe Napa. I understand the units are much nicer than the trailer park image they project and the location is great. They are rated 5* with II.

TPI has some great inventory for the place. I was wondering when you were going to post it L2. I may just have to go one of these days."If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."

I don't know much about the resort John. I looked it up on TripAdviser and it seems to be very nice. I did post the one bedroom summer weeks on the TPI Ex-Op board a little while ago.
I may have to wander up there as well.Lawren

There is also the Santa Barbara wine tours made famous in the Sideways movie. They are in the valley over the hill from Santa Barabara and we had a great time doing the sideways tour of the >20 wineries in the valley. You'd fly into the LA area and drive about 2 hours northwest.
Worldmark has a cute TS which opened about 1 year ago. If staying in a hotel I'd suggest Solvang over BueltenBill

If it was me and I was coming to California from Nashville, TN, I would want to stay in the heart of the wine country. Just because Napa town is in Napa County does not mean it’s in the best location. I think one would want to get the best experience out of there trip that means location, location, location and the best location would be in the heart - Calistoga or St.Helena.
When people in the bay area say they went to the wine county for the weekend the first thing people think of is Calistoga. But I prefer St.Helena the town is more romantic then Calistoga and its only 15min away from Calistoga.
