Southern California Beach Club, Oceanside, CA

We just stayed in a two bedroom end unit at the SCBC at the end of June....the resort has transformed itself from dump with a great location to a very nice place at a great location. You can see my mini review in a separate thread. We loved it and it has moved up my list.

        Worldmarks California Coastal Resorts

I have not stayed at any of these resorts. I did take a look at Oceanside and it was nice but the location is just 'ok' as it is tucked away behind the harbor and by the freeway. Getting to the beach may take a drive for the less hardy.

I am curious about Pismo Beach too......the beach town was rather run down when I was last there about two years ago but did not see the resort....we stayed at the San Luis Bay Inn in Avila Beach which we liked very much.

Casa de la Playa-This is in La Jolla. I think it is a converted apartment building. It is very small. There is no on site parking, only street parking. During the summer I imagine that could be hard to come by. It is situated in a residential neighborhood. It is across the street from the ocean, but not a swimming beach. A great walking area! The lawn and landscaping is well manicured. It has a nice spa but no pool. We stayed in a studio. It had a great bathroom and kitchen. It had a very comfortable murphy bed, so the living area was adequate too with the bed up. It has one an two bedrooms also. We got it as a $99 rental from HTSE on February. I would go back there in a minute!
I own a studio at the Casa. They did some remodeling the last couple of years and it made even better. Yes, small and charming (total of 12 units), but it's the only t/s in La Jolla and you can't beat the location and the community (about 20 minutes from San Diego but La Jolla is great). It's street parking but there's always parking within the block, it's great watching the surfers across the street and hearing the crashing of the waves at night. I have a week in September that I can't use if anyone's interested.

Worldmark Oceanside: Roomy units; walking distance to the beach.

San Clemente Inn: Very small but clean. Good base for Southern CA attractions.

Grand Pacific Palisades: With organized activities for children & adults; quite crowded during summer. Beautiful view of the flower fields when in bloom, but off season, there's not much to see outside the window.

I am an owner at San Luis Bay Inn so I am obviously somewhat biased. We own a large 1 BR, 2 BA Imperial unit and have gotten top floor ocean views. We love the resort and it is one of my favorites in the US. We have been owners there since it first opened as a Glen Ivy resort.

Worldmark Marina Dunes - The units (all 2 bedrooms) are small, but the resort is nice and in a great location - just walk through the small dunes to the beach! No wonder it's such a difficult trade.

Worldmark Oceanside - Nice resort. Location is not excatly picturesque, but you can still walk to the beach.

We stayed in a studio at the San Luis Bay Inn in Avila Beach and didn't really like it - must have been an older unit, and the general vicinity doesn't have much going on, so go there if you really want to veg out (although I haven't been in a couple of years, so maybe things have changed?).

Planning on going to one of the Carlsbad area resorts sometime this year. Anyone have any recommendations on which one you would prefer that would be a relatively easy trade through RCI?

I am glad to read this. I grabbed a week in May (studio) and dh and I will be going down then. We love the area but have never stayed in La Jolla, usually San Diego.

If anyone paid a penny for it they got ripped off.....I see people regularly giving their timeshares away at that place just to get out from under the maintenance fees....I wonder how it trades.

It is an RCI PSE resort and can be used to trade into other PSE resorts which is about the only attractive thing about the place.

Dave lives next door to the place and does tours if you are ever in the area.
We stayed there one night on bonus time on our way back from Las Vegas.

                        Four Seasons Aviara--2005
My kind of place. Spacious (2BR), well equipped, lovely pools with poolside service for drinks, food and cold cloths for the forehead. Restaurant/Bars at lodge are outstanding. A perfect 10.

                        Mariott Newport Coast -- 2006
Ocean view from balcony in 2BR very nice. Typical M quality. Lovely grounds/pools. Staff very friendly and efficient.

San Luis Bay Inn -- 2007 (Owner)
Laid back elegance in our Sunterra 2BR. Quiet yet close to shops/restaurants in Avila Beach.

Bringing an old thread alive. Anyone have a Santa Barbara area TS suggestion? Don't like Ventura but north of there would be nice.

                          Thanks.

I don't know of any timeshares near Santa Barbara. The closest one to the north would be San Luis Bay Inn at Avila Beach ( San Luis Obispo ) which is not near Santa Barbara.

The Hotel part of the resort was closed for updating. However, this is a nice resort with a great location. The trains are loud but the view of the ocean we had from unit 604 was great. You do have to climb stairs (about 40 steps) to get to unit 604. On a scale of 1 to 10, it is a 8 or 9. The train and the stairs being the reason for not being higher. I would go back again.

Give me a few days and I will post some pictures.

                                Thanks for the feedback.

A friend of ours was just at the Four Seasons Aviara and gave us a tour.....very nice place and very nice rooms. No ocean view of any kind so that is a downer. It definately ranks in the resort luxury class but there are other resorts that I would stay at first.
